5 Fengshui Ways to Increase Curb Appeal

Better Gardening

Curb Appeal makes you stop the car. And, take a look at the house. On the path to the house, the buyer already knows if they want to buy the house in 30 seconds or less. Fengshui creates a positive energy, and welcome feel to your home. Ming Tong in Fengshui means bright place and refers to curb. The curb must be inviting and promoting to stay longer.

Stimulate emotions with colors

Colors play an important factor in our emotions and senses. The warm colors (reds, yellow, and orange) build fun, and excitement, while the cool colors stimulate peace, calm, and relaxation. To warm up the curb, you can add colorful flowers in the garden, varnish any wood around the house, and paint doors and window with red accent. Too cool up the curb, you can add more grass, shrubs, and trees.

Glossy means healthy

Look at the trees, plants, shrubs, and flowers if they have panoramic colors. You can tell the health by the shine, and color. Trimming the dead plants, leaves, and flowers, you promote the healthy lifestyle.

Fast Energy

A direct path to the doorway creates fast energy. On the other hand, the meandering path slows and relaxes any potential buyer. A water fountains, fish ponds, pathway lights, special step stones, and beautiful flower slow down the energy and builds interest. The buyer can stop, and admire for a while.

Obstacles and Clutter

Obstacles and Clutters decrease the welcome feel of the home. You may consider organizing the porch, cleaning the path, moving the garbage bin, and trimming the plants.

Feed the senses

Appeal to the senses by adding sound and fragrance. With healthy garden, wildlife comes to appreciate your garden. The birds serenade the buyer and guest. And, the flowers sends heavenly aroma.

Update Alaska: News From The Front

Angling + Fishing

Stopped into The Fishin’ Hole the other day, which happens to be one of my favorite fishing tackle/outfitter/sandwich shops. (Talk about your one stop shopping!!)

I was looking for a good 8 weight line to take to Alaska.

What I came away with was an update from about four different people who had just returned from Alaska.

Now, for those of you that have been following my upcoming maiden trip to The Last Frontier -you know that I am headed up there in a week from now. So it was nice to hear some first hand reports on what is going on, and how the fishing is doing.

Of course I am a little concerned that right there in the tiny town of Shady Cove, Oregon–there were four people who have recently been to Alaska right there at that given moment in that fishing tackle/outfitter/sandwich shop! If you take the ratio of those four people at that given time and the odds that they had been to Alaska and multply that out over the entire nation…. well….. you come up with a pretty dang high number!

And to think I was worried about the mosquitoes.

Anyway, one fella happened to have a photo album and all I had to say was that I was headed up to Alaska–and of course he pulled out that album and showed me some rather dandy Halibut that weighed in at 178 pounds. He also said if he didn’t have one of those belts that you strap on to fight Marlin, he would probably be recovering from hernia surgery. I of course said the fish was nice– but I was more concerned with the mosquitoes.

He told me they didn’t bother him.Hmmmm now that sounds fishy to me.

Another person reported that the Kenai–the LOWLY Kenai— fished well and they caught some really nice King Salmon. They weren’t bragging about size so they were either really big or really small.

Not sure.

They also went Halibut fishing and caught some 20 pounders, certainly not big by Alaskan standards. They also reported that every person on the boat puked their guts out.

Now there is something to look forward to. I hope I am fishing out of a Princess Cruiseliner–but I doubt it.

I also asked them how the mosquitoes were?

To quote them: ” OH MY GOD- THEY WERE BIG AS BIRDS!!”

Nice. Puking, scratching, and hernia surgery!!

We discussed the various options of Deet and netting, but it sounded like that only made it more challenging for the skeeters to find a way to make your life miserable. They described the mosquitoes approaching, ‘like a black cloud’ and then enveloping them in a blood sucking frenzy.

Sounds like a Stephen King novel.

One gal produced a bottle of some ” natural” deet free repellant, and offered up a very weak, “our friends used this up at Diamond Lake last week and said this stuff is ‘the bomb’.”

Unless she meant “bug bomb”–I wasn’t about to start experimenting with anything unproven. Besides, the difference between Diamond Lake mosquitoes and the Kenai Peninsula mosquitoes is probably like the difference between Peoria and Yankee Stadium. I told her I’d try it but I would need her cell number so I could be sure to call her at midnight if her”natural” spray was ineffective.

She pulled that bottle off the counter faster than a Ford truck recall goes out.

So it sounded like fishing was going about as expected, and the mosquitoes were going as expected also.

I also received a call from another buddy who wanted to go fishing on the Klamath River, in California, the week after I get back. He is an Alaskan fishing veteran so he had all sorts of good information to offer up about catching Silvers, including a “special” fly pattern that he developed and ties himself. I am now going to be his official “field tester” –because I suspect he thinks- if I can catch a fish with it…then it has real marketing potential. So look for it’s appearance on the “two guys with flys” website if it works. If not… well… you can always look for my swollen festering mosquito welts.

I have also checked in with my good friend Tom, who if you remember, floated the Kisaralik River last month. He is back and reported a successful trip, in the respect that no one was eaten by a Bear, and they returned with same number of people they left with.

Oh, and the fishing was great for BIG TROUT, and of course–Deet had little or no effect at stopping the onslaught of mosquitoes. As evidenced by his scabbed over arm full of bites and “Calamine lotioned” skin color.

Also received a phone call from Ranger Kurt–and he pretty much just laughed maniacally and kept saying things like: “August in Alaska” “August in Alaska” “HA HA HA ha…….”

Perhaps a few to many bites from his last trip??

Well, that is about it from the front.

I’ll be busy this week getting ready-and soaking my clothes in Deet…

How to avoid injuries

Shopping Tips

Exercising is a great way to keep yourself fit and healthy, but there is also a risk of injury. However, if you follow some basic guidelines, and stay within your physical limits, you can ensure that you’ll have an enjoyable and safe workout.

Warm ups:
Warm ups are essential…this cannot be stressed on enough. Starting an exercise routine without warm ups can be very damaging to your body.
It is always advisable to do some relatively gentle exercise to warm up your muscles, so that they’ll be less susceptible to damage that may occur during exercises. Also, they’ll ensure that they get more flexible and limber.

Just spend a few minutes getting warmed up. About 5 to 10 minutes should do. Stretch muscles and other soft tissues. This will prepare your body for the more rigorous exercise that is going to follow, and help you go for a longer period of time without feeling tired or fatigued.

The right get-up
Fitness wear is very important. Only if you are at ease and comfortable in what you’re wearing, can you perform to your optimum potential.
The right shoes are imperative. They must be suited to the type of exercise that you are doing. When buying a pair of fitness shoes, always consult with the staff at a sports equipment store, and ask for their advice. The wrong type of shoes can lead to sprains and even long-term injury.
Clothes, too, must be comfortable, loose-fitting, and, ideally, made out of a fabric that absorbs sweat, like cotton. Very tight fitting clothes can be uncomfortable, and extremely loose clothes can get in the way.
Don’t compromise when it comes to fitness wear.

Cool down
Don’t come to a sudden halt in between strenuous workouts. This causes the blood to pool in your leg veins, and can leave you feeling dizzy and faint. Give time for the lactic acid being produced by your muscles during vigorous activity to be cleared by finishing your session with a few minutes of gentle exercise.

Change and Alternate
It is a good idea if you combine strenuous activity with something that is comparatively less physically demanding. This lessens your chances of over-exerting yourself, and gives your body more time to recover from bouts of intense activity.

Stop when it starts hurting
If exercising starts to hurt, stop until the pain has completely gone away. Saying like ‘no pain, no gain’ should be ignored, since they make you push yourself beyond your physical limits…which isn’t a good thing, after all. If you experience physical discomfort and things like dizziness, faintness, nausea, shortness of breath etc, please visit your doctor right away.
Also, avoid exercising when you are unwell or sick.

4 Steps to a Robot’s Tea Party

Promotion

Creating a new website is only the first stage in what is a long, arduous process to internet success. Millions of new websites, many of them intended to be commercial, are created every year and then…………nothing happens. No, or very few, visitors come to the site. But what can seem worse, not even the search engines are in a hurry to come visiting. Most search traffic is likely to come from Yahoo and Google, and increasingly MSN. Yahoo and Google, though, have always taken a long, long time to bother to crawl your website with Googlebot and Inktomi Slurp. These are the robots that scour the internet listing website pages and storing them to provide the database for their search results.

Yahoo have, for a long time, offered a quick way to get considered for listing, but that has been expensive, too expensive for many. Now, though, there is a free and cheap way to get the search engine robots coming to your new site quickly. When I first tried this method last December, 2004, Yahoo’s Inktomi Slurp and Googlebot were crawling my relatively new site within hours. They had both been before, but only briefly and intermittently for the couple of months I had been developing that website. From that day, GoogleBot, Inktomi Slurp and more recently MSNBot have been meeting every day, sometimes several times a day, on that website. It’s become like a daily Robot’s Tea Party.

What, then, is the secret? Well, it’s not really a secret. I had read about Blogging, and the effects on search engine robot behaviour, in the middle of 2004. I kept it on my mind for several months before I decided to do something about it in December. I had a new site I had been revamping from my original draft, and wanted to get listed with the main search engines without all the submission obstacle course. I wanted to get quick results, and I was not to be disappointed.

Here are the steps that I took to entice GoogleBot, Inkomi Slurp and MSNBot:

1. I signed up at Blogger.com to create a new Blog. When signing up, ensure you give the correct details of your website and the access details Blogger will need to place on your website an HTML file and an Atom/XML file of your Blog.

2. Write your first Blog and post it. Try to use the best keywords for your website in the titles of this and subsequent posts.

3. Go to Feedburner.com. This is not an essential step, so you can skip it if you prefer. I use Feedburner for all my feeds. Feedburner will convert your feed (Blog) into the most suitable format for the reader, depending on which RSS viewer they are using. While RSS is not new, the ways in which it can be displayed are still in a state of evolution. Let Feedburner keep up with those developments and display your feed in the most appropriate way. Also, Feedburner provides some useful statistics.

4. Go to http://www.masternewmedia.org/rss/top55/ where you will find a list of RSS/Blog directories. Make sure you submit your Blog url (or Feedburner url if appropriate) to My Yahoo and Google first, followed by as many of the others as possible. Inktomi Slurp and Google should come visiting your website very quickly. Don’t be too concerned if they are not as quick as they were in my case. More people are latching on to this idea now, and there is no guarantee that this method will still be as effective when you read this.

How to Keep the Search Engine Robots Coming to Your Website

Having baited the robots to visit your website, it is now up to you to keep them coming back, so they will by attracted to your site each day. The key to this is providing new content as often as possible, preferably every day. The Blog is a good way to keep the robots coming, but of course you should add other more substantial material to your site too. This can be done with your own original articles, or the articles of others who have agreed to syndicate their work. You can find many article directories on the net. If you just do a search for “article directory xxxxxx” (xxxxxx being your subject or keyword), you are sure to find some very quickly. I like http://www.ezinearticles.com/ , and I use them for my own articles and to find others. There are many more, though, for you to choose from.

A Recipe for Contentment: Kids, Creativity and Clay

Kiddie Stuff

This recipe can be prepared easily by children 12 or over and nothing spells contentment like kids,
creativity, and clay. (Not to mention, these ornaments are a great gift for family members!) For younger
children, have a parent or older sibling do the first few steps, then let children take over. This
clay will keep for two weeks when stored in a zip-top bag or airtight storage container. Try creating it a
week before school let’s out to keep kids busy and creative.

1/4 cup salt
1/4 cup hot water
1/8 cup cold water
1/4 cup cornstarch

Bring salt and water to a boil in a saucepan. In a separate bowl, mix cornstarch and cold water. Once the cornstarch has dissolved, add to the boiling water, whisking constantly. Reduce heat to low. Continue cooking and stirring constantly until mixture forms a stiff dough. Drop dough onto
waxed paper and once cool knead for five minutes. Proceed to work with dough just like cookie dough. Roll to about 1/4–inch thickness and let children use a variety of shapes to cut ornaments. Make sure to remind children to put a hole through the ornament for hanging. Toss on some painting t-shirts and add tempera or acrylic paints.

When done: Let ornaments air-dry for 72 hours or cook in a 200-degree oven for an hour on a foil-lined cookie sheet.

Breast Implants and Breast Augmentation Procedures Explained

Gender Issues

US breast implants - regulations

Here is a set of regulations passed by the FDA in regards to silicone breast implants:

1. Replacement or revision of saline implants

2. Tuberous breast deformity

3. Congenital breast reconstruction

4. Breast augmentation to the opposite breast for symmetry

5. Augmentation with a breast lift (mastopexy)

6. Severe asymmetries of the breast

7. Breast cancer reconstruction

Breast enlargement is, no doubt, one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures. However, many women wonder if the breast augmentation procedure is worth it, especially on a long run. Some fear that the breast implants will not last and they will begin to leak. Although this does happen, it is a very rare phenomenon. Most women who have gone through breast enlargement surgery didn’t experience any problems with their silicone breast implants.

Replacing breast implants

You will never have to replace your breast implants unless you come across a problem with them. Most breast implant replacements are made because the patient wants a new shape or size for her breasts. Although leakage and asymmetry are also among the reasons, they are very rare when compared with the conscious requests of the patients to modify their breast implants.

Incision types – which one is the best

While the inframammary incision is the most popular, other types of breast enlargement incisions should be considered. The crease incision has the huge advantage of leaving a minute scar that is barely noticeable. A transaxillary breast incision gives surgeons less control on where to implant the silicone. Incisions around the areola heal faster, but the abundance of nerve endings in the area made many surgeons feel that changes in tactile sensations might be present.

A Christmas Story (DVD) Review

Universe Of Movies

Adapted from humorist Jean Shepherd’s hilarious memoir In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash, A Christmas Story has climbed the ranks of the annual holiday classic films list to claim its spot among the hallowed elite of the genre. If you’ve ever tried to lick a frozen telephone pole, or found yourself in a ridiculous bunny outfit on Christmas morning, then A Christmas Story is one comedy you won’t want to miss…

A Christmas Story focuses on one central character, fifth grader Ralphie (Peter Billingsley) and his all-encompassing quest to receive a Daisy Brand Red-Ryder BB rifle for Christmas, although I don’t think he realizes he could put an eye out with one of those things… Thwarting Ralphie at every turn are his mother (Melinda Dillon) and father (Darren McGavin) who seem absolutely oblivious to their young son’s dream.

Unable to come right out and say what he wants, Ralphie drops subtle hints around the house such as placing clipped-out magazine ads for the gun in his parents’ nightstand reading material. When prodded for his true Christmas wish, Ralphie blurts out that he wants a Daisy Brand Red-Ryder BB gun, but his mother’s only reply is, “You don’t want one of those. You’ll shoot your eye out!”

A Christmas Story is filled with memorable scenes and highlights that have helped built a cult following around the life of a young boy obsessed with Christmas who is surrounded by a varied cast eccentric friends and family members. When Ralphie’s father beams with pride at his ability to win a newspaper contest, his proudly displays his prize in the front window of the family home, a three-foot lamp with a woman’s long, stocking-covered leg as its base. Embarrassed, Ralphie’s mother “accidentally” breaks it, sparking a war of words with her husband. Meanwhile, Ralphie dreams of saving the whole family with his Red-Ryder BB gun, thus earning the family’s undying gratitude.

One of the best sequences in the film involves a family trip to the local department store, where Ralphie and his little brother Randy meet with the store Santa Clause near closing time. Following a long, extended wait to reach the front of the line to see Santa, Ralphie is so brimming with anticipation to tell Santa what he wants that he can’t speak. So, Santa convinces Ralphie that he wants a football. But before Santa’s helper can push Ralphie down the North Pole slide, Ralphie blurts out his true wish, only to hear Santa’s reply, “You’ll shoot your eye out with that, kid!”

One of the best Christmas comedies ever made, although few come close to National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story is a memorable holiday classic the entire family can enjoy. Much like It’s A Wonderful Life, the film has only grown in popularity in the years since its release. The timeless nature of its subject matter lends itself well to annual holiday viewing, and it remains one of a handful of “must see” films for the Christmas season…

Before You Buy

Non-Assigned

Before you start looking for a home, figure out what you can
realistically afford to pay per month. Check out the market in
the area you want to buy. Find out what price houses are going
for and what the payments are per month. Remember that you may
end up paying a little more per month than someone with a
conventional bank loan, so keep that in mind as you figure out
what you can afford.

You are going to have to work harder to find a home you can get
without a loan. You will have to shop around more. So,
concentrate on your needs in housing before your wants. Make a
list of the minimum that you will accept in a house. Only write
down your essential needs. Do you have to have three bedrooms or
can you make do with less? Do you have to have a two-car garage
or will a carport do? Do you have to have a single story home
for health reasons? How close do you have to be to a school?

Make a separate list of the things you want. Wants might include
things like a pool or hot tub, a walk-in closet, wooden floors,
a deck, or a certain type of architecture. It would be nice if
you can find a home with some of your wants, but to begin with,
concentrate on finding a home that meets your needs. Often many
of these things can be added to a home later.

Also make a third list of things you absolutely do not want in a
home, such as: too many stairs to climb, a fixer-upper, certain
areas of town you dislike, a location too close to a freeway, or
a location too far from the center of town.

You may not be in a position to be too picky. Perhaps you can
make do with a smaller home for now, while you establish your
credit and get equity in the smaller home. Then you will be in a
position to trade that home in for a bigger home.

Re-establishing your financial footing is not as difficult as it
used to be, but it is impossible if you attempt to buy more
house than makes sense. Be conservative!

to Purchase a House When You Can’t Get a Home Loan” by Alexis

Electric Mobility Scooters for the Elderly and Disabled

The Healthy Way

There has been much advancement in the field of wheelchairs, specifically mobility wheelchairs. But now there is something even more versatile, mobility electric scooters. When it comes to the elderly or handicapped mobility scooters may be the best thing since sliced bread.

In the past disabled persons would lose out on many uplifting activities. But with the innovations in mobility scooters, the elderly and handicapped are not feeling quite as old or as feeble as they once were. Why? When you can get around almost as well as active healthy people you can return to being a part of the family or community. Independence is once again your ally. The ability to get around the house or out in public once again can be a major boost in a persons self worth. No more dependence on others to perform common everyday tasks.

Motorized electric scooters for people with a handicap are fast becoming the way of the future. With technological advances being made with regard to electric mobility scooters it’s no wonder they have taken the disabled world by storm. It’s a thrill seeing a 90 year old man walking his dog with the help of a mobility electric scooter, something that he wouldn’t have been possible just a few short years ago. But now there is practically nowhere a person can’t go with the help of an electric motor scooter.

There are gas motor scooters and electric motorized scooters, but for the handicapped gas scooters are out and electric is in. No need for gas, just plug it in for a recharge and then off you go with full independence once again. These wonderful scooters are getting faster and lighter. Plus, the scooter batteries have drastically improved, allowing much longer periods of driving without the need for a recharge. Wouldn’t it be nice being able to scoot around all day without the need for a charge?

Another advantage of mobility electric motor scooters is the cost. They are not only becoming increasingly less expensive, but if a person is disabled or handicapped it may even be possible to have Medicare or other medical insurance pick up some or all of the tab.

When purchasing an electric scooter be sure to take it for a test drive before buying. The most important thing is making sure that your motorized scooter is comfortable. By purchasing a comfortable scooter it’ll be a pleasant drive anywhere you go. Another consideration is the cost. If at all possible have your health insurance company pay for part of the price. But even if you have no insurance it is well worth the price. No price can be put on being independent and mobile, especially if you’ve been laid up for awhile.

One of the many options available in mobile electric scooters is their number of wheels. There are models that have either 3 wheels or 4 wheels. The 3 wheel scooters are typically lighter in weight. The 4 wheel models are typically heavier, but may be a little better balanced when going quickly around a turn. Two wheels in the front make for a more stable vehicle around sharp corners. Once again, it is wise to test drive before buying.

There are many different options including colors, sizes, weights, number of wheels, battery capacity and the types of seats. If chosen carefully an electric scooter can become one of the best purchases ever made for the handicapped, disabled or elderly.

Sally Johnson writes about many topics. Spreading the word about the wonderful world of mobility electric scooters is one of her missions. For more information about mobility electric scooters please visit her site.
