Female Hair Loss:

Beauty Within

Research shows that up to two thirds of women experience hair loss at some stage in their life and this can often be a very stressful time for women and is an integral part of their self image.

The most common causes of hair loss in women is not related to inherited genes but usually associated with other factors such as pregnancy, stress, chemotherapy, certain diets, thyroid hormone deficiency, some drugs or infections. Unlike men the hair loss in this case is usually temporary and healthy re-growth can occur over time.

Unlike men, women rarely go bald but may experience significant thinning and reduction of the hair shaft diameter around the forehead and crown of the scalp as they age.

If you are one of the millions of women who suffer from hair loss the most important factor is to understand why you are losing your hair before you seek out a remedy or solution.

Causes of hair loss:

1. Genetics: The most common cause of hair loss is rooted in your genes also known as androgenetic alopecia, hereditary hair loss can begin any time after puberty, but usually sets in before the age of forty and may accelerate around the time you reach menopause.

2. Pregnancy: A large amount of oestrogen is produced during pregnancy causing the hair follicles to go into their growth phase. Once the birth is over the hormonal balance is restored and the opposite happens with the hair follicles going into a hair loss phase.

3. Alopecia areata: The reasons for this are relatively unknown but research has shown that the cause is thought to be an auto immune disorder where the body mistakenly attacks the hair follicles. What follows is an inflammation of the follicles and surrounding hair structures. This causes the hair follicles to retreat into the deeper layers of skin shutting off an important nutrient supply, the follicles starve and the hair starts shedding followed by a dormant period.

4. Stress: Another common reason for hair loss in women is stress as known as Telogen Effluvium. What happens is that the growing healthy hairs enter the resting (telogen) phase of hair growth. The hairs matrix appears to stop dividing causing the hair to begin falling out. Women in their 40’s to 60’s will be affected by this kind of hair loss.

5. Drugs or Supplements: The most common drug treatment that causes hair loss is Chemotherapy. This kind of medication attacks the hair cells of the matrix causing 90% hair loss from the scalp. Prescription drugs are also known to thin hair out. These can be Blood thinners, high blood pressure and cholesterol drugs. Some dieting supplements can also be causes of hair loss.

6. Hair pulling: Also known as trichotillomania. Unlike other types or hair loss this is not a medical but more a psychological disorder. There are literally millions of people around the worlds that suffer from this condition. These are mostly adult women that suffer from low self esteem, anxiety, depression or are dissatisfied with their bodies. This condition can be treated with counselling.

How do payday cash advances work?

Your Finance Resources

Payday cash advance loans are essentially short-term loans that may use a borrower’s paycheck as collateral. Working individuals who are mainly dependent on their paychecks for money may occasionally find themselves in a spot where an emergency requirement arises and the next paycheck is still far away.

In such instances, lenders offer cash advances to adult individuals with an assured net income of at least $ 1000 per month. The loan amount is to be repaid by the borrower in full on the next payday. Cash advances charge a rate of interest of up to 20% and should ideally be taken in small amounts so that they can be repaid easily. The high rate of interest is charged as these loans are short term and given without a credit check. Most lenders offer a first-time payday cash advance of up to $1000.

The process of applying for and obtaining a cash advance is automated and can be carried out online. The borrower is required to submit a short application, which is usually replied to via email. The money is transferred to the borrower’s account upon the signing of the loan agreement and submission of postdated checks. Alternatively, the lender can directly withdraw money from the borrower’s account on the designated due date. Inability on part of the borrower to pay the loan in full may imply a violation of the loan agreement which can prompt the lender to demand non-sufficient funds (NSF) costs. If a lending agency chooses to refer a borrower’s poor payment record to the credit bureau, it can harm a person’s credit score and affect his chances of obtaining a loan.

Ideally, a person should refrain from taking payday cash advances often as these incur a high rate of interest. They should be kept as the final option when loans from friends cannot be availed and credit cards cannot be used. Factors that affect the approval of a payday cash advance include federal and state lending regulations, net income, and existing previous payday advances or other loans. Usually payday cash advances are scheduled for payment 15-18 days from the application date. Individuals can avail only one payday cash advance at a time from a given lender.

Lenders allow for an extension of the payment date and deduct an extension of payment fee on the original due date. There is a limit to the number of extensions allowed by the lender. Most allow up to four extensions of the payment date. The next scheduled date for repayment is usually the date of receiving a paycheck.

Exercise Walking For Seniors: Preventing Foot Problems

The Healthy Way

Exercise has a very important role in the general health and
the quality of life of everyone, but especially in seniors.
Seniors who walk tend to look younger, sleep more soundly
and have fewer visits to the doctor. Walking for 30 to 60
minutes four to six days a week will help improve
osteoarthritis and decrease the risk of osteoporosis, heart
disease, hypertension, diabetes and obesity. Walking is the
top recreational sport for seniors.

Although many seniors may be scared to start an exercise
program because they are worried about injury, the health
benefits of exercise outweigh the risk of injury. Walking is
considered one of the best forms of exercise because it’s
safe, cheap and easy. Unfortunately, foot problems can
prevent seniors from starting or continuing with a walking
program. Follow these tips to help avoid foot problems
when walking:

1. Choose the right shoe. Make sure the shoe is supportive
and bends only at the toes. The shoe should also be stable
from side to side. If you can twist the shoe or fold it in half, it
is too flexible. The shoe should have enough wiggle room
for the toes, yet be snug enough to keep the heel from
slipping.

2. Buy shoes in the afternoon. Feet swell during the day and
it is better to fit your shoes at this time. The only exception to
this rule would be if you always do your walks in the
mornings. Make sure your foot is measured at the store to
obtain your correct size. Feet change size over time. Most
feet lengthen and widen over the years, increasing the shoe
size. Don’t assume you’ve always been the same shoe size.

3. Start slowly with an easy pace. Try a short walk of 15
minutes and gradually increase the time each day.

4. If you haven’t walked before, make sure you start on a flat,
soft surface. A great surface to start on is a level, dirt path.
Don’t jump into climbing hills until you build some
endurance.

5. Warm up before walks. Gentle stretching before and after
walking can improve circulation and prevent injury. But, don’t
over stretch. If you haven’t stretched before, be careful not to
over do it. This can lead to injury.

6. Avoid walking in bad weather. Cold, wet weather makes
surfaces slippery and hard and decreases visibility.
Muscles can become tight and the feet can become numb,
increasing the chance of injury.

7. Examine your feet after the walk. Look for areas of
irritation, red spots, blisters or areas of swelling. Self-
treating can turn a minor problem into a major problem.
Consult a podiatrist if a problem persists.

8. Avoid cotton socks. The white cotton socks you’ve been
told to wear all these years are not appropriate for exercise
walking. Synthetic or wool socks will help wick moisture
away from your feet as you walk. This will decrease your
chance of fungal infections, excess rubbing or blister
formation.

9. Walk in well-lit places. The darker the trail or road, the
more difficult it is to see and the higher the chance you will
have of tripping, falling or twisting an ankle.

10. Don’t walk through pain. As soon as you notice a foot
problem, stop walking. If you continue walking with an injury
you could be making the problem worse. If you feel it’s
necessary to continue your exercise program, try using a
stationary bike while you give your foot a rest. If a few days of
rest does not resolve the problem, see a podiatrist.

Warning: Excess Protein is Hazardous to Your Health and Fitness!

Nutrition Portal

Wait a minute! We know that fat and cholesterol are hazardous to our health. You mean to tell me that too much protein is also hazardous to our health?

Yes, absolutely! That is exactly what I am saying. I know that this may come as a complete surprise to you, but the truth is that many experts think that too much protein, particularly animal protein, is hazardous to your health!

If a person consumes over 15% protein in his diet (beef typically has 26% protein - the rest is fat - and chicken has 61% protein - the rest is fat), then the body must get rid of that protein.

In other words, the body stores very little protein. Certain organs are responsible for getting rid of the proteinnamely the kidneys and liver. The more protein we eat, the harder the kidneys and liver have to work to excrete the protein. The result of overuse of these organs is obviouspremature wear and tear.

Most Americans eat an over-abundance of animal protein from their foods every day, and then they load themselves up even more with protein powders and drinks and bars. We are protein crazy in this country! And it is to our demise, not to our benefit.

So along with the wear and tear of the kidneys and the liver which is bad enough, why else is excess animal protein hazardous to your health?

Excess protein makes the body more acidic, and these acids accumulate in the joints causing arthritis and gout.

Animal protein is hard to digest so it is hard on the digestive system causing digestive problems.

Animal protein is strongly associated with heart disease; no, not just the fat and cholesterol, but also the animal protein itself.

Animal protein is associated with many kinds of cancers, such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer, and pancreatic cancer.

In a huge study conducted in China by T. Colin Campbell, PhD., it was found that the groups of people who ate the most animal protein had, by far, the most heart disease and certain cancers. And the amount of animal protein did not have to go up very high in order for the disease numbers to go up also.

And because the animal protein makes the body more acidic, the body has to neutralize the acid. It does so by pulling calcium out of the bones, and then we pee out the calcium.

Why is this significant?

It is believed that animal protein just happens to be one of the major contributors to osteoporosis in this country. This excess protein leaches the calcium out of our bones.

So one of the best things you can do for yourself is to cut back, way back, on your consumption of meat protein and protein artificially loaded into other foods and pseudo-foods. In fact, your best bet for maximum health and fitness is to completely eliminate animal sources of protein.

Load up on plant foods and get away from animal productsit just makes sense!

Top Ten Listening Skills for Speakers

Helpful Stuff

Good Speakers need good listening skills to become
Great Communicators

Speakers spend a lot of time developing speaking skills and often don’t focus enough on the equally important communication skill of listening. As a Speaker trained in the art of listening I have put together the tips below.

1. What Speakers want most of all is to be heard, so does everyone else! Hence listening is the perfect gift to give to others

2. Never make assumptions about what people are thinking and feeling. Take time to listen and ask questions. Most people will be only too happy to answer. Why guess what people are thinking when they will tell you!

3. Remember silence can be as powerful as Speaking, when used skilfully

4. In conversation, repeat in your own words your understanding of what is being said. This communicates to the listener that they are really being heard.

5. Make eye contact that is not too fleeting, actually try to see the eye colour of the person/s you are communicating with.

6. When people speak, let them finish their own sentences, no matter how intuitive you are, you never really know what people are going to say.

7. Resist the urge to interrupt, and avoid planning your reply while the person is speaking; instead focus on fully hearing what is being said. This is the real skill of listening

8. Listening is a whole body experience; listen under, over and between the words spoken. Feel what your audience is saying.

9. Check your ego. When you try too hard and ‘Ease Genuine Out’- EGO, what remains can appear false. Listen to yourself and be yourself, people will love you for it.

10. People will be more prepared to listen to you, if you take time to really hear them.

Guide to Servicing your Chainsaw

Better Gardening

Chainsaws provide many years of service for very little upkeep. Taking the time to service your chainsaw will help ensure that your equipment will not let you down. For safety reasons, make sure you only service your chainsaw when it is fully cooled, with the spark plug disconnected. If you are working with an electric chainsaw make sure it is unplugged first of all. You should also wear gloves and protection for your eyes.

For safe and effective operation having correct chain tension is necessary. As the chain wears, significant stretching will occur. After five to ten cuts a new chain may need to be readjusted. Separation from the guide bar or binding into the wood can occur if the chain is loose. Premature chain and guide bar wear will be caused by a tight chain. A chain that is well adjusted will move easily and smoothly when pulled by a gloved hand. Binding or sagging by the chain should not occur. The chain tension should be checked and adjusted if needed before every use.

A manual or automatic chain oiling system is used in most chainsaws. Friction and heat builds between the chain and guide bar without oil. The oil also helps the individual links in the chain operate smoothly at high speeds. Check the oiling system prior to every use.

Tighten all of the screws and fasteners. This process should be done before every use. Before using your chainsaw each time you need to inspect the fuel system.

After every 10 hours of use you need to clean or replace the air filter. Byreplacing the air filter on a regular basis your chainsaw will be able to run cooler and use less fuel.

The sprocket tip should be lubricated after every 10 hours of use. You will know that lubrication is complete when a small amount of grease appears at the edge of the guide bar near the sprocket.

For every 10 hours of use the guide bar should be turned. Flip the guide bar over to promote an even wear pattern on the bottom and top of the bar. Inspect the spark plug after every 10 hours of use and cleaned or replaced as necessary.

For every 10 hours of use the spark arrester screen should be inspected and cleaned and replaced when necessary. The spark arrester screen prevents sparks from leaving the exhaust port and hurting the operator or falling on flammable materials.

The fuel filter should be replaced after every 20 hours of use. Poor
performance can result if the filter becomes clogged.

To ensure the maximum performance perform the following procedures as needed to prolong the life of your chainsaw. Take your chainsaw to an authorized dealer if the carburetor needs adjustment. The chain blades should be sharpened periodically as they become dull.

Questions About Laser Hair Removal

Beauty Within

This article answers a few of the most common questions about laser hair removal, including who it is suitable for, how much it will cost, which areas of the body it is most suitable for, and how permanent the results are.

Who is laser hair removal suitable for?

It is not suitable for everyone. The general rule is that the hair in question must be a darker color than the skin surrounding it. If the skin is a very dark pigmentation, it you may absorb too much of the laser energy, and so the treatment is not advisable. Those who are tanned with light hair are also unsuitable. Those who are tanned with dark hair should not have the treatment until their tan has faded.

Generally speaking, it is easier to perform the treatment on someone with light hair, as opposed to someone with dark hair.

How much does it cost?

The average session costs in the region of $500. Four or more sessions are usually recommended. Large areas (such as the back) will obviously result in a larger bill, and smaller areas (such as the upper lip) won’t cost as much. Private consultations are recommended to assess the cost, as the number of sessions needed varies from person to person.

What areas of the body can hair be removed from using laser hair treatment?

Anywhere where there is excess hair. The only real exception is around the eyes. The most common areas are legs, back, bikini line and underarms.

Is it permanent?

Unlike shaving and waxing, laser hair removal is considered to be a more permanent form of hair removal, but the results differ according to the patient in question. As with all beauty treatments, do not choose the practice which offers the lowest price, as the treatment may not be of the best quality.

Written by Kelly Jensen for LaserRemoval.net, an extensive information site regarding laser hair removal, cosmetic procedures, and skin beauty tips. For answers to other general questions you may want to review this Laser Hair Treatmet article.
