The Art Of Magic Tricks

Best Lifestyle Resources

Magic tricks are enjoyed by people from all over the world. It is something that seems to be a universal language that entertains both young and old.

Many people attempt to become amateur magicians as a way of entertaining family and friends. If someone wants to become a good magician, it would be helpful to know the different varieties of magic tricks before performing them.

The first type that most people are familiar with is stage magic. This is the most difficult type of magic trick and is often associated with famous magicians such as David Copperfield, Lance Burton, and David Blaine. These types of magic tricks require a great deal of skill to perform and usually involve grand schemes like making a large landmark disappear or walking through walls.

The next type is called platform magic and is done on a somewhat smaller scale. These type of magic tricks are quite a bit easier to perform than most stage magic tricks and involve tricks such as sawing a person in half or levitating.

And finally, the last type of magic trick is called close up magic. This type requires the least amount of skill and can be learned with a little effort. These type of magic tricks include magic card tricks, coin tricks, cigarette through quarter, pencil through bill etc.

There are many different tricks that can be learned by just about anyone willing to practice. The secret to remember is to never reveal how you do your magic tricks to your audience.

The quickest path to acheiving your status as a master magician is to be able to perform magic tricks at a moments notice using a wide variety of borrowed objects. If you are handed a pencil, a coin, a handkerchief, or a dollar bill, you should be able to perform at least one magic trick with any of these objects. Another key thing to remember is that only a tiny fraction of the magic is what you do, and the rest is how you do it. If speaking candidly, many magicians would tell you that most of the tricks they perform are very easy, but to the audience, they are spectacular! It is all about how you present yourself to the audience: your timing, your sense of humor and your ability to distract are very important. So remember, with a little practice and showmanship, you can learn to be the life of the party by performing simple magic tricks.

Enhance Your Finnish Vocabulary in a Finnish Sauna

Best Lifestyle Resources

Among the great benefits a traditional Finnish sauna offers is a
thorough cleansing of the body. The heat of the sauna helps to
open pores in the skin and flush out built-up bacteria through
heavy perspiration. Regular sauna use is also good for blood
circulation, pain relief, and strengthening the body’s immune
system. Health benefits such as these have been touted in
numerous books and articles that have been written on the
subject of Finnish saunas.

However, there is one potential benefit of traditional sauna
bathing that has been repeatedly overlooked by even the most
fervent supporters of the Finnish sauna. As obvious as it may
seem in hindsight, it’s still worth mentioning: the traditional
Finnish sauna bath can serve as a great introduction to the
Finnish language.

The word sauna itself is a Finnish word. In fact, it is
the only word of Finnish origin that has established such a
secure place for itself in the English language. Ask yourself
what other word better describes a sauna than sauna.

While not yet accepted into the English language, there are some
other Finnish words that define important aspects of the
authentic Finnish sauna experience. The word kiuas, for
example, describes the traditional Finnish sauna stove or sauna
heater that holds and heats the sauna rocks that are such an
integral part of the Finnish sauna. When water is tossed upon
these hot sauna rocks, steam is then produced. The Finnish word
for this steam (so esteemed by Finnish sauna enthusiasts) is
loyly.

In a traditional Finnish sauna, bathers sit on wooden benches.
To the Finnish people, these benches are known as
lauteet. Each bench, or laude, is placed at a
height in the sauna room where the bather can enjoy the air as
hot as he or she can tolerate it.

Adding to the pleasure of a traditional Finnish sauna experience
is the vihta or vasta, a thick bunch of young,
leafy birch twigs that are tied together and used by the sauna
bather to slap on him or herself (without causing pain) to
promote blood circulation and cleanse the skin. In countries
where tender birch is not as readily available as it is in
Finland, the vihta or vasta can consist of cedar
or poplar twigs. The actual slapping of the vihta or
vasta is known as vihtoa in Finnish.

Sauna, kiuas, loyly, laude,
lauteet, vihta, vasta, vihtoa.
Congratulations on completing your first Finnish vocabulary
lesson.

Shih Tzu History and Legends/Cross Breeding with Pekingese and Lhasa Terrier/Shih Tzu Management

Best Lifestyle Resources

There has been a strong opinion in shih tzu history that the
Tibetan Lion Dog is the result of a cross between the Lhasa
Terrier and the Pekingese, which occurred out of the mixing of
the two breeds in Tibet and China.

The dogs of each country had been taken to the other from time
to time by tribute envoys and officials. The cross in Tibet,
that had been taken out of that country by way of India, has
been called the Apso, while the cross in Peking has been called
the Tibetan Poodle or Lion Dog. The Tibetan cross probably had
more of the Lhassa Terrier in it, while the Chinese cross has
more of the Pekingese.

Shih Tzu Management:

Be cautious about the dangers of dampness and violent
temperature changes when it comes to the living quarters for
your shih tzu. With a heritage of luxurious living in the
palaces of the Orient, the domesticated dogs of today for the
most part share the lovely homes of their owners in our affluent
society but still must be protected against sudden change in
temperature or weather conditions, particularly true with
puppies.

The Shih Tzu is a rugged little dog, it is sheer folly for a dog
to sleep indoors by the stove, fireplace, or beneath a comforter
on his master’s bed one night, and then be expected to spend the
next night outdoors in a dog house or in a drafty garage. Shih
Tzu do have a way of choosing their own beds, and it will
probably be the same as yours!

Probably about the most important of all aspects in the care and
health of your Shih Tzu is diet! My Shih Tzu have thrived better
on HealthyPetNet Life’s Abundance. Fresh water available at all
times is also a diet essential. Be careful about the extras you
choose to feed your dog. Try to be certain that everything he
eats is safe and nutritious. Again, I recommend using
HealthyPetNet treats, the dental cookies, the skin and coat bar,
the Porky Puffs, etc. As a breeder, I recommend and prescribe
the diet I prefer using for my own dogs and that has worked best
for me. I cannot say enough “good” about HealthyPetNet Products.
I can’t imagine anyone not liking them after once trying them.
Yet…..I do realize other breeders will have their own
recommendations. And, as always, your own personal vet should be
included in your final decision about your shih tzu’s diet.

The capacity and size of the individual shih tzu determines the
amount of food he/she should consume each day. Labels on the
food itself give good guidelines to follow. For my puppies
before they leave home, I keep food out at all times. This can
change, according to the new owner’s preferences. A healthy dog
should eat the approximate same amount every day, and will be in
good flesh without going to fat. Table scraps are out of the
question. Never feed your shih tzu table scraps. Shih Tzu are
acustomed to the best and it seems this part of their heritage
never fades away. Feed your Shih Tzu the very best of Premium
Dog Food. HealthyPetNet Life’s Abundance is my choice.

A Legend of Shih Tzu Management:

The Chinese tell a story of Ch’en, of the town of Chiang Chou as
an illustration of the perfectly brought up household. Ch’en not
only preserved harmony among the 700 members of his family but
also had the family dogs so well trained that, if one was late
for dinner, the other 99 waited for him!

No explanation was given of how this was accomplished and the
stories are legend, of course, but another Chinese sage, Chang
Kung-i of Shantung, provided a clue……..questioned by a T’ang
Emperor how he kept nine branches of the family together, Chang
gave an answer often quoted in China, by writing one word a
hundred times - - “jen-mai,” meaning “patience” or “forbearance.”

The stories being legend, there is nothing to prove that the
Ch’en family dogs, if they even existed, were Shih Tzu Kou. Such
tales do draw attention to the fact that the Shih Tzu can be
trained in obedience since they are highly intelligent,
remarkably responsive, and unusually quick to learn.

Training a Shih Tzu does call for patience, however, since a
common trait of the Shih Tzu is a “strong self- willed streak.”
This fact has been noted down through history by many Shih Tzu
Fanciers. One leading dog trainer in the United States spoke of
the breed with extreme admiration, but emphasized, with a
smile…….”that they could occasionally be very stubborn.”

So….keep that in mind when training your Shih Tzu, and
remember, none of us are without downfalls. The Shih Tzu with
all its other wonderful qualities far outweighs this one aspect
of their personalities. Try praising your shih tzu during
training with HealthyPetNet Porky Puffs (a favorite treat of my
shih tzu). They go CRAZY for HealthyPetNet Porky Puffs.

The Top 3 Things Every Woman Wants For Valentine’s Day

Best Lifestyle Resources

Valentine’s Day is around the corner. So what do you get her
this year? Maybe you’re tired of doing the same old “red roses
and a box of chocolates” thing and you want to make this year a
Valentine’s Day she’ll remember without spending a fortune.

Here are the top three things every woman wants for Valentine’s
Day. You may be surprised!

1. A Show of Effort

Women want to know that their man has put some thought and
energy into making their Valentine’s Day special. They want to
see that there was time spent in preparation for the evening.
It’s not about how much money you spend. In fact, it’s better to
have spent more time than money on Valentine’s Day.

Plan an evening that requires a little forethought, and
preparation. Women know if you just stopped at the local
convenience store to pick up some roses on your way over. Give
her a night dedicated to her wants and desires - not just
something thrown together at the last moment.

2. Proof You Listen to Her and Know What She Likes

As a man, one of your most important jobs in your relationship
is to listen to your woman. Women drop clues on a constant basis
in everyday talk. For example, if the two of you are out
shopping, she might see a bunch of tulips, and say “I just love
tulips! Pink tulips are my favorite flower.” One of the best
things you can do is hear that information, remember it, and use
it at a later time.

Then on Valentine’s Day buy her pink tulips instead of the
standard red roses. Chances are she will be so impressed that
you even knew she likes pink tulips, because she forgot she said
it, or even that you remembered all this time, and that you went
to the trouble to surprise her with her favorites.

This can apply to anything including a certain food she loves
but never indulges in, a hotel or retreat she’d like to take
with you, a piece of jewelry she adores but would never spend
the money on herself, or maybe something off beat like she’s
always wanted to learn ballroom dancing - Sign the two of you up
for lessons. There are many ways to make Valentine’s Day
memorable if you just listen.

3. Pamper Her

All women love to be pampered. Some may not be used to it, or
not even know what they like, but I promise you all women will
love it. A gift certificate to the spa is not the same. Here’s
why - When you pamper a woman you are taking care of her, you
are making her feel good, and by you doing the pampering you are
showing your love. So how should you pamper her? Every woman
likes different things more than others, so don’t be afraid to
ask her ahead of time. Here are some suggestions to get you
started.

You could make a bubble bath for two complete with candles and
champagne. If she’s not a bath girl, you might consider buying a
small bottle of massage oil, have her get into her bath robe and
give her a back massage. If she’s a woman that spends her days
on her feet, you may want to give her a pedicure.

Remember that however you pamper her it should be done for her
enjoyment alone. It should not be used solely as a way to get
her warmed up for sex. If she leads it that way, then all the
better, but go into it with the intention of just making her
feel good. Women can sense when they are being primed for sex,
and when it is a genuine act of kindness.

The key is to listen to her, find out what she really likes, and
plan an evening that caters to her. Surprise her with her
favorite things instead of the typical Valentines roses,
chocolates, and teddy bears. And, spend time and effort to make
this Valentine’s Day a night she will remember and brag to her
friends about.

Christmas Joys

Best Lifestyle Resources

This Christmas has to go down in history as the best I can ever
remember. It was my son’s 2nd year to celebrate the joyous
holiday, but the first in which he could really participate in
opening presents. And he had plenty to choose from!

My son took his time opening each gift - tearing wrapping paper
off in one-inch sections and making sure he put them all in the
trash bag. He’s quite the little neat freak even at 21 months.
And, of course once the gift was opened, it had to be opened.
Have you had the pleasure of opening a child’s toy lately? If
not, be grateful. The toy is attached to the box by either
screws or twist ties. But if that’s not enough, the screws
and/or twist ties are covered in packing tape. If you’re
fortunate enough to get a Little People’s set, you can have fun
prying the little figures out of the heat-molded plastic casing
they come in. So, after about 45 minutes of unwrapping one
gift…he would move on to the next. Needless to say, unwrapping
presents was an all-day event - a very enjoyable,
laughter-filled all-day event.

I was having such a good time that it got me reminiscing. I
remembered when I was a child; my parents would tell me that the
best Christmas present they could ever receive was watching me
open gifts with wide-eyed anticipation. As a young toy-craving
kid, I couldn’t understand what they meant. How could giving
EVER be better than receiving? I understand completely now. The
older my baby gets, the more fun I have giving him gifts. And,
the less I care about what I receive. As a kid, I would spend
the long days leading up to Christmas examining packages,
scheming to find out what was in store for me. Now those days
are spent baking for friends and family, taking my son to play
dates, and reading him stories about the very first Christmas. A
far cry from Barbie dolls and Cabbage Patch kids, but I’ve never
been happier.

The holidays have always been a great time of reflection for me.
This year is surely no exception. I take note of having been
blessed with a healthy child and a loving husband - both of whom
have made this Christmas exceptionally grand.

12 Parenting Tips For Parents

Best Lifestyle Resources

In a child’s education an important factor is the parents’
expertise for the “job”. No one is born holding all the
knowledge, but we can learn and understand things from books or
take the advice of qualified persons.

Amongst the commandments a parent should strictly follow are the
following:

1. Do not underestimate your child - he can understand more than
you think he does and if you make him believe you think poorly
of him this might affect his development.

2. Don’t use threats - a child loves a challenge and once
threatened he might go on and do what he wasn’t suppose to just
to see if he can escape the punishment.

3. Do not bribe your child - if you are trying to get him to
learn for money, for example, he will fail to understand the
importance of learning, all he will get from this is the
importance of money.

4. Do not make a small child promise something - small children
can’t hold promises so don’t force them to lie and then punish
them because they did that.

5. Do not keep them under a short leash - to grow up normally
children need some space, some freedom.

6. Do not use big words or too many words when you are talking
to your child - keep your ideas simple and concise so he can
understand every thing you have to say.

7. Do not expect an immediate and blind obedience - it is not
recommended, the child has to learn to think for himself, not to
follow orders.

8. Do not indulge him too much - he can develop compartmental
disorders.

9. Do not compromise when it comes to the rules of a game - the
trick for a game to be educational is to have its initial rules
respected.

10. Don’t impose rules that don’t go with the age of your child.

11. Do not try to inflict guilt - guilt is not an appropriate
feeling for children, especially if they are little.

12. Don’t give your child orders that you don’t take seriously -
your child will try to please you and giving him an order is
drastic. It becomes cruel if that order is a joke.

All these “commandments” are addressed first to the parent. But
they need to be referred to by teachers and educators as well.
Along with the parents, they will settle upon an attitude and
strategy for the education and growth of the child, so that they
can give him all the things he needs to properly develop
emotionally and physically.

Scrapbooking Step-by-Step

Best Lifestyle Resources

Interested in learning how to scrapbook, but not quite sure how
to begin? The following guide will help you get started with
this fun and rewarding hobby. The guide explains how to organize
your scrapbook photos, plan your scrapbook project, select your
scrapbook album, create your album pages and store your
scrapbook supplies.

Organize your scrapbook photos If you are new to scrapbooking,
the thought of organizing your photos might be somewhat
overwhelming. Breaking the task down into the following four
parts will help you get the job done: 1) Gather your photos from
your drawers, closets, shoe boxes, etc. and bring them to a
large workspace such as a dining room table, 2) Sort your photos
chronologically and by event, 3) Label the backs of some of your
photos so that it’s easy to identify what a particular group of
photos is about, and 4) Store your photos in photo-safe products
until you’re ready to put them into scrapbook albums; products
should say “photo-safe” and/or “acid-free and lignin-free.”

Plan your scrapbook project Once your photos are organized, it
is time to plan your scrapbook project. There are three things
to keep in mind when deciding what your first project will be.
First, use recent photos - work with photos that are less than
one year old so that it will be easy for you to remember what
they are about. Second, keep it small - choose a specific event
(e.g., wedding, vacation) to start with rather than tackling a
whole year’s worth of photos. Third, make it personal - use
photos of an event that you were part of; this helps when it
comes to journaling.

Select your scrapbook album After you have decided what your
first scrapbook project will be, it is time to select a
scrapbook album. You will need to choose the style, size and
design of the album. Style: There are two album styles -
strap-hinge and post-bound; the names of the styles refer to how
the pages are secured in the album. A strap-hinge album lies
flat when you open it so that you can work on your page while it
is in the album and then slip a protective sleeve over the page
when it is done. With a post-bound album you work on your page
outside of the album and then insert the page into a protective
sleeve in the album when it’s done. Size: Scrapbook albums come
in a variety of sizes. The 12″x12″ album is the most popular
size, but there are a number of other sizes including 11″x8.5″,
8″x8″, 6″x6″, and more. The albums are usually expandable and
vary as to the maximum number of pages they can hold. Design:
Scrapbook albums are available in many different colors,
patterns and textures. You’ll want to choose an album that fits
with the theme of your photos - a white album for wedding
photos, a pink album for baby girl photos, a festive-colored
album for birthday photos and so on. As long as you make sure
the album is labeled as “photo-safe” and/or “acid-free and
lignin-free”, it’s fine to use any style, size or design.

Create your album pages Once you have selected your scrapbook
album, the fun really begins as you create your album pages.
There are four components to an album page. Photos: Select 4-6
related photos and crop (i.e., trim) each one so that it focuses
on the most important part of the picture. Then arrange the
photos on your album page; try a number of different layouts to
see what looks best. Border/Background: Use scrapbook paper,
stickers and other embellishments to create a border/background
that reflects the theme of your page. Mount your
border/background and your photos on your page. Journaling:
Write about the who, what, when, where and why of your photos.
You can have captions for each photo, write in paragraph format
about the whole page, or use bulleted text to list the
highlights. Enhancements: Add scrapbook stickers, die-cuts or
other embellishments to your page. Use just a few enhancements
so that they compliment your photos rather than overwhelm them.

Store your scrapbook supplies The proper storage and
organization of your scrapbook albums and supplies is very
important. Photos and certain scrapbook supplies can be damaged
by heat, humidity, light, acid and lignin. Use storage products
that are photo-safe and keep your albums and supplies in a
temperature and humidity controlled room (i.e., not in an attic,
garage or unfinished basement). In addition to keeping your
scrapbook supplies safe, you will also want to keep them
organized so that they are easy to find whenever you are ready
to work on your albums. There are scrapbook organization
products designed for storing your photos, pages in progress,
albums, enhancements, paper, tools and more.

So those are the basics for getting started. For more detailed
information on each of the steps described above, including a
component-by-component example of how to create an album page,

EQ & Investments: Bull, Bear Or Human

Best Lifestyle Resources

EQ & Investments: Bull, Bear Or Human

Markets are supposed to be rational, but with an
economic system based on scarcity, how do investors
behave with emotional intelligence? Experts in
behavioral economics and emotional intelligence tell
us we sell winners too soon and hold onto losers too
long…

The ability to accept loss and feel the regret we might
have may be the greatest obstacle to gaining wealth.
Lacking EQ, investors are more likely to hold on to losers
too long. Why? We avoid the “negative” feelings, and rather
than feel the remorse, we want to move beyond it–into some
action that will give us back what we lost. The losses that
hit us hardest are the first few dollars we lose, so additional
losses aren’t as painful. With this increased risk tolerance
we tend to throw more good money after bad. We’re emotionally
wired to avoid pain. And, given a positive move or a negative
one of the same amount, there’s more intensity on the negative side.

We are more driven to avoid regret than to have pride. So while we
hold losers, we also tend to sell winners too soon. Rather than
wait for a small gain to grow, we tend to take our profits too soon.
Why? Because every additional dollar of gain gives us less satisfaction.

Investors are also resist change–even beneficial change. The more
choices we have, the more we tend to stay in status quo. The EQ of
investing would tell us –do your homework, pick carefully, determine
a minimal downside loss and upside gain. The EQ challenge then, is
self-managing the emotions that come with taking rational action in a
scarcity system.
