The Problem With E-Books

Book Base

One of the most popular online ventures is selling e-books.
People are hungry for information; that’s why they’re on the Web
in the first place. And e-books are cheap to produce and
distribute.

However, I’ve come across quite a few new online entrepreneurs
thinking they’re going to strike it rich selling a $20 or $30
e-book. They’ve failed to do some simple math.

Suppose you sell an e-book for $30. Deduct $5 off your $30 sell
price to account for advertising and other costs. That leaves
you with $25. You’d have to sell 1,000 copies a year to make
$25,000. That’s a lot of copies! Even if you did sell that many,
25 grand isn’t exactly going to put you on Easy Street.

Another factor is competition. Many e-books with resell rights
have also be purchased by hundreds, possibly thousands, of
competitors.

And if you’re selling an e-book as an affiliate, you’re usually
limited to 50% or less of the sell price.

The key to making large amounts of money selling information
products is that you need resell rights for at least one higher
priced item.

Say you have duplication rights to a product that sells for
$400. If you sold just 6 copies of this product a month, you’d
be pulling in $2,400 in sales. That’s $28,800 a year. If you
sold 12 a month, you’d make $57,600 a year. Sell 24 a month and
you’re raking in $115,200 a year.

“Wait a second” you say. “What about my costs to duplicate,
package and ship the product?”

Here’s the beauty of the information marketing business: people
pay for the value of the information, not the physical medium on
which it’s delivered (e.g. paper, audiotape, videotape, CD etc.)

It’s dirt cheap to duplicate information products. It’s easy to
duplicate a CD-ROM on your computer and blank CDs are less than
a dollar each.

I have an info product that I sell for $397. To duplicate,
package and ship it via UPS, costs me $60. Subtract $50 for
advertising. That still leaves me with $287. That’s a huge
profit margin.

So instead of concentrating all of your marketing efforts on low
priced info products, be sure that you have one or two higher
priced items that you’re actively promoting.

Use e-books as a stepping stone to upsell customers. Once
they’ve purchased a product from you, you’ve established a
relationship with them. Someone who’s already down business with
you is five times more likely to buy than someone who hasn’t.

The truth about selling e-books on the internet

Book Base

If you’ve surfed the internet for a while lately, you might have
noticed the incredible amount of hype generated around e-books,
information products, resale rights and similar stuff. Indeed,
it is a popular subject since it promises a way to generate
passive income, like real estate or wall-street shares, with a
minimal amount of effort.

Truth is, many
internet marketers are now using all this hype to their own
interest, by selling poor-quality informational products at very
high prices, or promising blatantly ridiculous incomes: don’t
get caught in the marketing trap!!

I’m
Albert Z. and I’ve been selling e-books for a while on the
internet: I own the site Culture-Books > and can tell you a couple of REAL things about selling
e-books online!!

What you might have been
taught up to now is that:

  • selling e-books requires no effort
  • you can make very high incomes every month (>
    2000$/month)
  • selling e-books requires
    no skills
  • there is no investment to be
    made
  • it works on
    autopilot

Now, check those
statings with the truth:

class="style3">
  • selling e-books requires some months
    for setting up your activity
  • you will
make low incomes (100s), unless you write yourself a very good
piece of text, which is time-consuming
  • selling e-books requires designing skills,
copywriting skills (for most of your sales), a sense of
    marketing and lots of organization
  • indeed it does work on autopilot! but if you want to
increase your activity over time you will HAVE to devote some
    time to it!
  • you will need a website,
hosting, and provided you don’t spend any money on designing,
seo tools etc, initial goods for selling, you will end up
    spending about 50-100$, provided you’re a savvy money-saver!
  • As you can see, selling
e-books is not very different from any other real-life activity:
it requires work and skills, lots of time (at least initially)
and a little bit of overhead to set up everything!! But it does
    indeed have some advantages:

    • overhead costs are very low if compared with other
      activities
    • once set up, it requires
      very little maintenance time
    • it’s fun
(which is very important ;) ), watch the style of an e-book
      store here , doesn’t
      it look fun?
    • it earns quite good
money for the low amount of effort required

So, how do you go about selling ebooks?? There
are mainly 3 ways: eBay, ClickBank, or your own website. The
route I chose was eBay + personal website, because they are
sinergic (they help each other): having a site makes it so much
    easier to upload your images, to have a professional look etc;
plus you get webspace and you can just send out emails with a
link for downloading your product (instead of attaching your
product with the mail, which incurs in many problems with spam
filters or filled email boxes!!). eBay on the other hand brings
good free, relevant traffic on your site and gives you some
extra exposure which may never hurt. It’s common to offer a
product for 1.50$ on ebay, but selling it for 1.30$ on your
site. This is a legal and intelligent way to
"redirect" eBay watchers to your own site without
    spending a dime!!

    Bear in mind however
that eBay and PayPal (your everyday staple when selling ebooks)
charge pretty high "default" fees that will quickly
cut your revenues on low-cost ebooks (for instance, if you sell
a 1.50$ ebook on ebay with paypal, you might only get 0.50
revenue, which sucks big time!!) so you’re better off selling
products with a higher cost, in the range of 5-10$ (so even if
you lose that 1$ in fees, you’ll still keep a good % of your
    money)!

What are the tools you will need
for your activity?? The ones I feel a MUST are:

    class="style3">
  • an autoresponder (if you keep your pc on
24/7 you just really need Outlook Express with an autoreply
filter set up, if you wish to turn off you pc then you need a
cgi quality autoresponder: you find out more about both of them
here), this is ESSENTIAL for the automation of your
    activity
  • a domain and a host, I use godaddy for it’s
cheapness (3.96$ a month with 500mb space and 20gb bandwidth,
    enough for a small business)
  • an html editor (there are
many free ones, just check on google!)
  • a free image
editor (for the design of your site), i recommend the GIMP, an
open source (free) software that rivals photoshop!
  • a
shopping cart system (i use osCommerce, but i’ve heard good
    rumors about zencart too!)
  • If you’d
like to find out some software or information about internet
    businesses, drop by my
site , I’ll be glad to help!! Also if you’re interested in
exchanging opinions or partnering, I am always very friendly ;)

I hope this article was useful for you,
    have a nice day!!

Thank You Rich Jerk E-Book Review

    Book Base

I purchased Thank You Rich Jerk and was AMAZED AT THE AMOUNT OF INFO PACKED INTO 31 PAGES. Holly Mann gives a full blown explanation of how to make a lot of money on the internet by doing a lot of different things, step by step that are all part of a package THAT WILL MAKE YOU A LOT OF MONEY!

Holly Mann begins her book by detailing how a newbie can get started without a website. In comparison to the Rich Jerk, she takes a lot more time laying out steps that newbies can use to become effective. Her approach is engineered to take a person who does not know anything about making money on the internet step by step through a process that I believe was the same process she went through herself to get her to where she is today, very successful.

Holly then outlines how you can get a website created for you if you don’t know how, and for those who want to know how, she specifies software you can purchase to create your own website easily. Holly then outlines how to optimize the site you just created. She then gets into how you should pick the keywords for your new site, domain name(s), and then eventually promote the website(s) to get a top search engine ranking for FREE! Thank You Rich Jerk is priced too low in my opinion.

After all the detailed SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Tips, she then gives you places that you can go to promote your new website to get traffic to it. She even gives you tips to improve the traffic to your website. She had less than 100 visitors her first month to over 10,000 visitors to her site just THREE MONTHS LATER!

Holly Mann then shows you websites you can sign up on for FREE, and promote products that you WILL get paid commission on! She then lists easy ways to make extra money on those sites in five minutes!

She then gives tips for wholesaling goods and special tips for selling goods on EBAY. Like I mentioned earlier, Thank You Rich Jerk is priced way too cheap in my opinion and she could sell this for at least three times more. I would buy this info because its a steal!

“Thank You Rich Jerk” has been reviewed and I give it two thumbs up!! This book is a steal for $14.95!

Finding the Real Authors in a World Flooded with eBooks

    Book Base

Here are two quick and easy ways to get informed before you commit to click.

    1. Test the Author

Author means authority. A true author can live up to the claims of their sales page. Have a look at their web-site and see if they’ve written any articles. Or, better still, if they have an ezine sign up and sit back for a few days.
Look at what they’re writing and see if it passes the three-point test.

  • well written

if the author’s articles are misspelled and riddled with repetition, you can be sure their ebook will be the same. Look out for authors who have proofed and put care and attention into their written articles.

  • original & informative

are they telling you something new in their articles and ezine? or are they recycling info you could have found anywhere?

A good author will share with you from their experience. They are like bees who visit thousands of flowers to make a pound of honey. Don’t buy from someone who’s articles give the hint that they’re just buzzing round the same old flowering weed!

  • generous

This is probably the most important point. Real authorities on a subject are happy to share good information with you before you buy there book. They don’t write weak articles that hint at the hidden glories of their paid for product. They give you good info up front and plenty of it. If they are generous with the information in their articles, you would hope that their book will follow through and be an original and informative read.

But is you’re still not sure, you can always…

    2. Visit a Review Web Site

Review sites are places which ideally have read a copy of everything listed and taken the worry our of your purchase.

They are there to save you paying for a click and paste publication you could have put together yourself.

If you want to find out more before you buy, find a good review site and see what they’re saying about ebooks on the topics that interest you.

Gary Paul is an independent reviewer of ebooks. His interest is in helping readers find good quality products among the 1,000’s available on the internet.

How to Choose Colors for Your eBook Cover

    Book Base

Color can have a profound impact on your prospective buyers. The wrong colors can negatively impact your sales, while the right colors can trigger positive emotions motivating your visitors to buy from you.

Color can affect how we feel and influence what we think. In general, bright bold colors tend to stir us up, while the softer pastel colors calm and relax us. Responses to colors can vary by age, gender and cultural background.

Colors will affect how a potential buyer reacts to your ebook. Carefully select your color scheme for your ebook cover. Here are some guidelines to help you make good color choices. Bear in mind that these are guidelines, and that there are no hard and fast rules. Just use common sense.

    • Consider your audience. For example, if your ebook primarily targets men, then you will want to use strong, bold colors. If your target audience is women, then choose soft, pastel colors. If your focus is on children, choose bright, vibrant colors.

    • Choose colors that are appropriate for your book’s topic. For example, green may work well for books about starting a home business, making money, and reducing debt.

    • Use colors that match or complement the color scheme of your web site.

    • Keep the number of colors down to two or three, and no more. This does not include photographs which can have a whole range of colors.

    • When using photographs on your ebook cover, use colors that complement the primary color in the picture.

    • Make sure that all of the colors you use work well together and do not clash.

    • Communicate your message with easy-to-read text. Use colors for your text that contrast with the background color so your text is readable. For example, a dark font on a light background is easy to read.

    • Consider the mood you want to create. Remember that emotions trigger sales. People buy what they want - not what they need. The list below will show you how colors can affect us in different ways.

Red – Action, energy, strength, passion, fire, heat, power, attention-getting. Can also mean love and romance. A strong masculine color. Red is a good color for a call-to-action. Red is cheerfulness, excitement, and warmth. Pink is a soft version of red. It is most associated with romance, calming affect; a feminine color.

Blue – Confidence, travel, freedom, truth, professionalism, wealth and power. Also tranquility, dependable, acceptance, patience, understanding, cooperation, comfort, loyalty and security. It is one of the most calming colors and is associated with the sky and the sea, intelligence, reassurance, and trust. Blue has also been known to be an appetite suppressant, so it would not be good for cookbooks or recipes but you can consider it for diet books.

Green – Money, wealth, prosperity, calm, health, food, nature, hope, growth, freshness, soothing, sharing, and responsiveness. Green symbolizes spring, renewal, and fertility.

Orange – Health and vitality, autumn, youthfulness, fire, steadfastness, courage, confidence, friendliness, cheerfulness, warmth, excitement and energy. Has been known to stimulate the appetite. Vibrant and warm, orange is associated with autumn and the earth.

Yellow – Light, purity, understanding, caution, brightness, intelligence, joy, organization, Spring. Yellow often represents sunshine, warmth, light, energy and happiness.

Purple – Dignity, sophistication, creativity, spirituality and mystery. Deep purple is associated with royalty and richness, while lavender is associated with romance and nostalgia.

Brown – Credibility, stability, the hearth, home, the earth, wood, comfort and strength. Brown can be used as a neutral or a warm color.

Black – Space, night, authority, dramatic, classy, committed, serious, power, elegance, and sophistication.

White – Purity, peace, perfection, fresh, easy, cleanliness, goodness, and spirituality. Worth noting here, white represents life and marriage in Western cultures, but it represents death and sorrow in Eastern cultures.

Grey – A conservative color, symbolizing security, maturity and reliability.

Take advantage of the impact color can have on your ebook sales and choose colors that will create positive responses.

Have you ever heard of an e-book?

    Book Base

    Dear Friend,

After browsing the internet, I came across an interesting
article that grabbed my attention. The main concept was
discussing how you can personally sell information on the
internet. One of the fascinating ways of sharing and selling
information is by an e-book. First of all, have you ever heard
of an e-book? If your answer is no, well don’t feel bad because
I too didn’t know what an e-book was before reading the article.
An e-book is just like any other hard or soft covered book
except it is completely digital. This is attracting and
convienent for computer lovers for the obvious reason that they
are able to read it on their computer. There are many advantages
of learning how an e-book works. An obvious reason is knowing
that you as a seller are able to profit and see results faster
than if you were to publish a traditional book. For example, you
can publish an e-book in a couple of hours or at most by a few
days in comparison to a traditional book which obviously takes
longer time. You can also satisfy your customers; because you
don’t have to worry about shipping the book to the customer
rather they can download their book and be instantly satisfied.
You save tons of money by avoiding time, postage, printing cost,
and packaging materials. Another great feature of an e-book is
that it is completely versatile. You can create anything you
want! An e-book is just one of many ways of selling information
via internet. The internet has after all taken over the majority
of businesses, ways of communicating, sharing information, and
most importantly making big bucks! Now if you’re like me and
enjoy learning cool techniques to benefit you and your future
and on top of that you can learn this on the internet well then
I know you’ll take advantage of this grand opportunity.

Wish you the best success! Thank you, Stephanie Martinez

Back To The Basics So You Can Become An Expert and Make Sound
    Clinical Decisions

Lon Bartoli, BSN, AHT, VCLS, EMT

Veterinary Hematology is more than just blood cells. Blood,
    highly functional and truly definitive,

does much more than provide for the transport of cellular
metabolites and waste products. Blood is made up of four major
components: Plasma, Red Blood Cells, White Blood Cells, and
    Platelets.

Each component possesses its own diagnostic significance in the
    veterinary clinical setting.

Without blood, you have no viable mammal life. Therefore without
blood, the clinician has no valid

    clinicalpicture of disease-state. To appreciate
the value of blood, the clinician should examine each individual
component of blood separately to gain an appreciation for the
clinical significance and diagnostic value of veterinary
hematology in their practice. Anemia will also be discussed.

    Plasma

Plasma carries blood and blood proteins. Aside from a high water
    content, plasma also contains

dissolved salts, calcium, sodium, magnesium, and potassium.
    Plasma contains clotting factors

and on exposure to air it will clot. Serum is the clear fluid
    that separates from clotted whole

blood and clotted plasma. Plasma comprises approximately 20% of
the animal body’s extracellular fluid. Most plasma protein
molecules are too large to pass through the capillary walls into
the interstitial space. The small amount of protein that can
pass through the capillary walls is primarily taken up by the
lymph nodes and eventually returned to the circulation.

The Majority of the plasma proteins are produced in the liver.
    Plasma proteins form three major

chemical groups (fractions) and have varying functions.

    *albumin - approximately 60%

    *fibrinogen - approximately 4%

*globulins - approximatly 36% over three subfractions (IgA, IgB,
    & IgG)

The relative proportions of plasma proteins can vary in certain
    diseases and these variations can

be clinically useful in determining proper IV therapy. Albumin
is the smallest of the plasma proteins and easily passes through
capillary walls. In kidney disease, large amounts of albumin are
excreted through damaged kidney tubules and can be detected in
    the urine.

Functions of the plasma proteins include :

Intravascular collid osmotic pressure. Maintains fluid and
    electrolyte levels.

Transport of insoluble substances allowed by protein binding
    processes

    Contribution towards the plasma viscosity

Inflammatory response via microbe fighting antibodies

    Protein storage reserve

    Clotting

Protection from infection via plasma gamma globulins

Plasma also contains inorganic ions, which are important in
    regulating cell function and

maintaining homeostasis. As an example, depletion of potassium
    may occur following severe

diarrhea and vomiting. Potassium is an essential element of cell
    excitability. Sharp decreases in

potassium will cause muscle weakness and cardiac abnormalities.
    Similar problems may cause

sodium depletion. Subtherapeutic sodium levels in the plasma
will result in the volume of

extracellular fluid to decrease which will lead to a drop in
    blood pressure causing lethargy,

    dizziness, weakness and fainting.

Plasma carries a wide range of substances including dissolved
    gasses left over from the

respiratory exchange cycle (mostly CO2). Blood carries oxygen
because it does not have an

affinity for plasma related to its water solubility.

Nutrients, the most abundant being glucose, are carried in the
blood plasma as a source of

fuel for cellular metabolism. Amino acids, fatty acids,
    triglycerides, cholesterol and vitamins

are also carried by plasma. Urea, uric acid, creatinine from the
    kidneys, bilirubin from the gall

bladder and other waste materials are also transported by
    plasma. Plasma proteins carry

hormones, such as cortisol and thyroxine. The plasma also
    carries certain drugs and ETOH.

    Platelets

Platelets are the result of cellular fragments shed from the
    megakaryocyte while in the bone

marrow. Platelets considered cell fragments rather than actual
cells, play a critical role in blood

clotting. When an injury to the body occurs, a chemical
substance is released at the site of injury.

Platelets are able to quickly adhere to this chemical and begin
    to form alliances with other

platelets and clotting factors. This alliance is the body’s
    defense against bleeding to death.

Platelets are also significant in forming diagnostic clues to
the blood smear and can be useful at

guiding the clinician in care planning, treatment and further
    diagnostic steps. Platelet morphology

together objective data can be indicative of bleeding disorders
    and leukemia.

    RBCs

Red Blood Cells, seemingly basic, are created and have the sole
    purpose of keeping the mammal

alive by carrying oxygen to the tissues and white blood cells
out of the bone marrow and into circulation. Red Blood Cells
along with other blood components are present in nearly every
portion of the body. When there is not enough blood in the body,
anemia occurs and the animal begins to have clinical signs. It
becomes imperative that clinicians immediately identify the
etiology of anemia in order to help define or refine treatment.
In doing so, the clinician will examine the blood smear and
available objective data in order to quickly determine whether
the anemia present as defined by a low pack cell volume (PCV) is
one of production, consumption, sequestration or destruction. We
will be discussing the cellular size, shape, color and other
diagnostically significant data present in various states of
anemia to aid the clinician in accurate slide evaluation.

    WBCs

The white Blood Cell (WBC) plays an important role in the animal
    body by providing our bodies

with a weapon to fight against infection and disease. The
primary function of the WBC is served

mostly after it leaves the marrow and enters the blood stream
after being carried by the RBC from

its site of formation in the marrow, to its site of labor in the
blood stream. There are five types of

white blood cells seen in blood and each has different roles to
    perform.

    The Neutrophil

The neutrophil, in conditions of healthand certain
disease, is usually the most common

granulocyte found in blood. The cytoplasm of the neutrophil
    contains three differing types of

granules. It is these granules that result in it being termed a
    granulocyte. Neutrophils generally

have segmented or hyper-segmented nuclei giving them the
    appearance of being mutlinucleated.

In fact, they are not multinucleated as a thin strand of
chromatin connects each lobe of the

prominent dark purple, multilobed nucleus. At times, this
chromatin strand can be visualized by

most microscopes, when care is taken to look for it. Sometimes
    however, the strand becomes

obscured by parts of the nuclei itself as a result of cell
    orientation and smear technique.

The three type of granules seem in the cytoplasm of the cell
    perform specific functions.

Primary granules are non-specific and contain lysosomal enzymes,
    defensins, and some

lysozyme. The granules are similar to lysosomes. They stain
violet in color when prepared with

Wright’s stain or Diff Quik. The enzymes produce hydrogen
peroxide, which acts as a powerful

    antibacterial agent.

Secondary granules, found in the cytoplasm of the neutrophil,
stain neutrally a light pink. They

contain collagenase, which helps the cell to move through
    connective tissue, and deliver

lactoferrin, which is toxic to bacteria and fungi.

Tertiary granules have only recently been appreciated as a
    granular component to granulocytes.

They are thought to produce proteins, which help the neutrophil
to stick to other cells and hence

    aid the process of phagocytosis.

Neutrophils, once they arrive at an area of infection, respond
    to chemicals (called chemotaxins

which are released by bacteria and nectrotic tissue cells) and
travel towards the area of highest

concentration of infection or necrotic tissue. Once they arrive
at their destination, they begin the

process of phagocytosis in which the offending cells are
    engulfed and destroyed by powerful

enzymes. This process requires much energy, so the glycogen
    reserves of the neutrophil are

soon depleted and the neutrophil promptly dies soon after the
    phagocytotic process. When

neutrophils die, their contents spill out into the blood stream
    and remnants of their enzymes

cause liquefaction of closely adjacent tissue. This results in
    an accumulation of dead neutrophils,

tissue fluid and abnormal materials that is known as pus.

types but differ in the location in which they sequester for
    their function.

Helper T-Lymphocytes originate in the thymus and produce long
    living T-Cells which become

Killer T-Cells or K-Cells which mediate antibody dependent cell
    cytotoxicity (tumor rejection).

B-Lymphocytes are localized in the corticomedullary region of
the lymph nodes and are made up

of cells of the germinal centers of the cortex in lymph nodes,
in the red pulp of the spleen, and in

the submucosal regions of the stomach and respiratory tract.

Lymphocytes, distinguished by having a deeply staining purple
    nucleus that is sometimes

eccentrically located, usually contain a relatively small amount
of cytoplasm. The small ring of

the cytoplasm contains numerous ribosomes and readily stains
    blue with Wright’s Stain or

Diff-Quik. Small numbers of granules may also be noted in the
    cytoplasm randomly.

Lymhpocytes increase in number as a response to viral infection.
    The small lymphocyte will

approximately the same size as the normocytic RBC. The cytoplasm
    is often not visible because

it is obscured by the nucleus of this cell. This cell is
    definitively round under examination and

lacks “divets.” There can be variations in the size of the
lymphocyte in the k-9/f-9 with the small

type usually being the predominant type. In the small lymphocyte
    the chromatin is usually so

coarse that it is masked. The medium and large forms of the
    lymphocyte often appear smudged.

Lymphocytes will increase in number with restraint: physical or
    chemical, and you will usually

notice a corresponding increase in PMNs.

    Anemia

Anemia is defined as a below standard hematocrit (HCT). A
species specific hematocrit (1) is as

    follows: Dog: 37-55, Cat: 24-45, Horse: 32-52, Porcine: 24-46,
    Bovine: 24-46. There are further

variations of this data available that are further
differentiated on the basis of age and sex. The

author uses a combination of sources, which he has found through
    experience to be clinically

    reliable and accurate.

Most anemic conditions (except hemorrhage anemia) can be ordered
    to have an etiology of

consumption, production, destruction or sequestration and
    further differntiation of anemic types

are considered by ascertaining variation is size, shape,
    color.

Anemias of consumption include the hemolytic anemias and those
    created by disease conditions

should as DIC and parasites where platelets and other clotting
    factos are consumed. Some

anemias which sequester platelets and blood to the spleen, have
    also been placed in this

classification, but etiologic differentiation has been found to
    be of clinical significance.

Anemias of destruction such as Autoimmune Mediate Hemolytic
    Anemia (AIMHA) exist when the

body’s own antibodies destroy its own red blood cells.

your specimens out to a reference

lab, this lecture will bring you back to the basics and help you
remember that which you may have

forgotten in school. Many clinicians find this lecture and
format helpful to expand on basic

knowledge and clinically apply what they see either under
the microscope or on the lab report.

Not having adequately available time to donate towards the lab,

    James Martell’s Methods and Yahoo

    Book Base

In James Martell’s Affiliate Handbook, he mentions that he focuses on optimizing almost exclusively for Google, since they get the bulk of search engine traffic. But there’s been a little bit of controversy lately about some of James’s sites being penalized by Google. My personal suspicion is that his sites were excessively cross-linked, and some of them might have had duplicated content. But one of the things I have noticed is that the Martell sites are doing very well in Yahoo.

A good friend of mine is an expert at SEO. He explained to me a few days ago that Yahoo’s current algorithm is very similar to Google’s old algorithm, before Google started trying really hard to thwart SEO’s and affiliate marketers. This would explain why Martell’s sites are still doing very well in Yahoo. And while Google might still get a lot of searches, Yahoo is no slouch. If Yahoo gets half the searches done on it that Google does, then it’s still sending a terrific amount of traffic. (I heard someone say that Google might put the lobster on the table, but Yahoo can still put the steak on the plate.)

Yahoo is more sensitive to on-page optimization than Google. One of the only flaws (and it’s a minor flaw) with James’s materials is his focus on keyword density and on-page optimization. Off page factors matter much more than on page factors right now, and that situation won’t change anytime soon, as far as I’m concerned. It’s just so much easier to manipulate your on-page factors than it is to manipulate your offpage factors. Yahoo’s a big fan of having your keyword in the URL, but Yahoo’s results are heavily related to your backlink structure too.

I recommend James Martell’s book and his methods, but I encourage everyone to do some independent thinking too. I disagree with a cookie-cutter approach to webmastering, and to business as a whole. Pay attention to what’s going on, and experiment with different things. Learn what’s working for you, both in Yahoo, and in Google, and don’t be afraid to try something different now and then.

Which Ebook Format Should You Use?

    Book Base

    © 2004, John Calder http://www.TheEzine.net

New marketers, when finally ready to create and offer their
first product, often decide that it should be an ebook. Whether
the subject matter is for the Internet marketing community or
for a niche market, ebooks are relatively easy to produce,
distribute, and support when compared to software, audio, and
video products, and physical shipped products. One of the more
frequent technical questions is which format to use, PDF or a
    Windows executable file.

A PDF file is in Portable Document Format, which is a format
developed by Adobe. Portable, as the name implies, means the
file format can be read on more than one type of computer. A
Windows executable on the other hand is a program with the
contents of the ebook embedded directly into the program itself.

Each format offers certain benefits, but the trend has been
towards PDF files recently. For starters, PDF can be read on
both Windows and Mac machines, while an .exe will only run on
Windows. Mac users are roughly ten percent (at a minimum) of any
market that many marketers aren’t willing to ignore.

In the past, the only way to create a PDF document was with
Adobe’s Acrobat software, and it’s a rather expensive product to
this day, selling for several hundred dollars. Compare that with
some excellent ebook compilers which sell for less than $50, and
you can see how marketers who are just getting started may be
tempted to save some money with the .exe format. But it’s no
longer necessary to spend hundreds of dollars for Adobe Acrobat.
There are several free and low cost alternatives that will let
you create a PDF format document.

PDF documents can be created from Microsoft Word easily. Just
get your ebook looking like you want it in Word, then print it
to the PDF “printer”. An .exe file is typically a compiled web
site, which means you must set up your information just as if it
were on the web, with multiple HTML pages, HTML coding, and so
on. Now this can be easy to do as well, with software like
Frontpage or Dreamweaver. But those take a learning curve, while
even most non-techies can figure out Word enough to create a
    document.

You also need to remember that many computer users are no longer
comfortable downloading any .exe file to their computer. Their
well-founded fears of viruses, spyware, and adware often make
them hesitant to click on any program with an .exe extension,
even from someone they trust. Virtually all Internet marketers,
and most surfers, are familiar with the PDF format, and aren’t
as resistant to a download. Don’t forget support issues - you
will most likely have far more support from an .exe file due to
compatibility or system problems. A PDF document requires only
an Acrobat reader, which is a free download from Adobe, and
which many surfers already have on their machines.

For your readers, a PDF document offers convenience in
navigation because of bookmark controls built into the Acrobat
Reader. The navigation within an .exe file is as good as the
HTML pages it displays. The PDF format is tops in printing too,
because the reader has a built-in printing interface, while .exe
files often need to be printed page by page.

There are even software tools now that will let you easily
rebrand PDF files. In the past, this was perhaps the .exe file’s
biggest advantage, but now it seems that too is gone.
