Down comforters provide you with a luxurious natural warmth that few other materials can. Down is known for its insulating properties and ability to spring back to its original shape, that is why it is used in comforters, blankets, pillows, and jackets. A down comforter is very comfortable in all temperatures as down is a natural heat regulator, so you can use your comforter all year round.
When purchasing a down duvet be sure to get one that is at least a 200 thread count or higher. If you go any lower than that you may have feathers poking through at you. This can be very unpleasant when you are trying to sleep. Another important thing to look for when buying a down quilt is if it’s made using a baffle box construction. Baffles give the down feathers in your comforter the opportunity to remain at their fullest loft. Always look for “baffled boxes” or “baffled construction” when buying your down filled comforter.
It is important to get yourself a comforter cover for your down duvet. This will protect it from dirt and wear as well as adding a decorative touch to your bedroom. When it’s time to wash your comforter cover, just take it off your down quilt and throw it in the wash like you would your sheets. But when it comes to your down duvet, it’s going to cost you between 30 and 40 dollars to dry-clean, so the less you have to wash it, the better. That’s why comforter covers are so important.
Down duvets are a worthwhile investment. You will have it for years and if you decide to change your bedroom decor, you simply have to change your duvet cover. Check out the internet for some fantastic prices on a wide variety of bed linens and maybe you’ll find a comforter cover or two for your down duvet!

According to a survey conducted by Franklin Covey 83% of people want to be organized. To begin your quest for organizing it is best to start with organizing your home. Closet organizing should be considered to be the very first step towards getting organized. There are lot of items in your closet and breaking them in to categories and then arranging the accordingly is a nice way. First of all get rid of all those dresses that are out of fashion now, there is no need to keep all this stuff so it will be able to get rid of them.
The next step in organizing closet is sorting out your remaining stuff. Arrange all these things by hanging them and dedicating a specific space for them. There will be stuff that has to be kept in baskets and draws. Identify what you need, do you need draws or shelves? Do you need racks for belts or tie? Do you need more space for hanging your clothes? If you are able to sort thing out and arrange them well then you will notice that you have more space than before. Your closet will look much tidy now and you can easily find stuff that you need to wear.

Thinking of remodeling or renovating your kitchen? Here are a few tips for preparation and avoiding common pitfalls.
If you have a large kitchen remodeling project you will need to set up a temporary kitchen a different part of the house. It’s important that the location you choose is convenient and have unrestricted access to water and allow you to keep foods refrigerated as well as heat foods up. It’s also a good idea to have easy access to portable cooking appliances such as a microwave, electric wok and electric frying pan. Daily life must go on and you don’t want to be eating take-out every night or running to the neighbour’s house every time you need something from the refrigerator.
Here are the Top 5 Most Common Mistakes in Kitchen Remodeling:
1. Damaging the wall as you remove old cabinets
2. Damaging bench tops, cabinets or floors you plan to re-use
3. Not shutting down utilities before starting your project
4. Allowing dust and debris to spread throughout the house
5. Not allowing enough time to complete your project
Before You Get Started
1. Box and seal everything that will not be used in your temporary kitchen. Label the boxes and store them in a different part of the house.
2. Remove anything from the kitchen that isn’t nailed or screwed down. This includes drawers, lazy susans, spice racks, wall clocks, art work, ornaments, pots and pans etc. Place a protective cover over anything that must remain in place while you are working.
3. Make arrangements for the removal of any rubbish that may accumulate during your remodeling project. If you must rent a dumpster, do so in plenty of time or have a utility on hand for removing the rubbish to the dump. If you plan to salvage the old cabinetry for a workshop or donation to a charitable cause, have a place ready for them to go as you take them out of your work area.
4. Before removing any major appliances, turn off all utilities. This can be done at the individual shut off valves for gas and water. If there are no shut off valves, you will have to turn off the main valve. The main gas valve is usually located near the gas meter. Remember that, once you turn off the gas to the whole house, ALL pilot lights will have to be relit before they will work again. Without very careful planning you may well find yourself without hot water when you’re ready to clean up after a hard day’s work.
5. Disconnect fuses or turn off circuits to the area in which you will be working. In older homes, the wiring may have been modified over the years and it may not be clear which circuits or fuses control specific areas. If you are unsure, turn off the main power or get contact an electrician. Never take a chance with electricity! In addition, tape over the breakers so they won’t be turned on inadvertently. If you plan on upgrading your electrical system and adding new outlets and fixtures, it will be necessary to dismantle all existing outlets and fixtures.
6. Remove all light bulbs. Then, dismantle each fixture by using a screwdriver to unscrew the plate and the receptacle and pull the receptacle out of the box. Put wire nuts on any exposed wires for the interim. The bare copper wire is the ground and does not need to be capped.
Kitchen remodeling can be a rewarding and satisfying experience by planning right and avoiding the pitfalls.

The trend for enhancing your patio is to create an outdoor kitchen area. Cooking and eating aren’t the only things favored by these new ideas in outdoor living. Outdoor bars can be an essential part of your summer enjoyment creating the sense that you really have more of an outdoor room. When planning bars outdoors; consider the functionality of these newly created outdoor rooms. One consideration would be for it to be a conversation area. Low seating arrangements should be higher than a cocktail table, but lower than a dining table. This is ideal for serving beverages and appetizers, playing cards, or talking with your friends. You could also use typical high barstools if your outdoor bar is located on more of a balcony, deck, or if there is a fantastic view you don’t want your guests to miss. No outdoor room would be without something lovely to look at, such as a pool or beautiful outdoor fireplace. If you live on water, you don’t have to go far for a view. You will have friends and family clambering to be on the guest list to enjoy the summer. It’s exhilarating and calming at the same time when you can sit on a patio down by the water and listen to the waves coming up on shore. Your outdoor bar is perfect for entertaining every time of day. You can have coffee outdoors and even cook up the eggs from your stove outside. Your bar is always close at hand to serve up the afternoon iced tea or lemonade, and in the evening you have everything you need to mix drinks for your guests. No outdoor bar would be complete without an outdoor sink and refrigerator. These appliances would be considered necessities for the bar drinks you will be mixing. How about a trendy wine refrigerator for your favorite chardonnay? Don’t be afraid to put these kinds of appliances outdoors. Many are made especially for the outdoors.
Outdoor canopies add that special touch for a true outdoor room. Colors for your outdoor bar room could be anything under the sun. Your outdoor patio would take on more an outdoor room feeling if you kept the colors in the same palette as the patio. Flow of color should be maintained outdoors as well as indoors. The same rules of decorating apply. I like to consider the colors of flowers I plant outdoors as an extension of my indoor color palette. Doesn’t it make sense to have flowers that flow with your colors inside? If you have soft salmon pinks in your living room, why would you want orange and blues outside? Your outdoor patio furniture can be of any style as long as it also flows with the style of home. If you have a rustic log home, the high tech aluminum patio furniture may not be your best choice. If you want to shake things up a little, add pine Adirondack chairs. They are rustic, yet have a simple sophistication as well. Bring in some eclectic looks with some antique accessories around the bar. You can find vintage pieces that will enhance any outdoor room and bar and if they are old, you don’t necessarily care of they get wet as they are exposed to the elements. I had a patio that I added some old tool chests for tables and other large pieces that were extra seating. They also became a conversation piece. Don’t be afraid to decorate outside the box when doing up the patio or outdoor area. Maybe you’d like to splurge on a sophisticated look with marble or granite countertops because the natural material looks fantastic outside on the bar and tabletop. You never know when those little accidents happen, so consider using plastic champagne or martini glasses if your gathering is informal, or do it up in style with the baccarat crystal. A few basic ideas can help your outdoor bar area come alive as an outdoor room, making it very enjoyable for your next party.

Microfiber sofas are becoming popular because they offer easy
maintenance. Increasingly, homes are incorporating microfiber
sofas into their decoration
schemes. Microfiber is the tiniest man made fiber possible
with today’s technology. It is one hundred times finer than a
human hair. It is very popular because fabrics produced from
microfiber are soft, lightweight, and easy to care for.
Additionally, the fibers leave no lint or dust, so they are
highly recommended for allergy sufferers. These fibers are used
to create clothing, cleaning cloths, polishing cloths, and all
types of furniture including headboards, chairs, and sofas.
Cleaning a microfiber sofa should not be a difficult
process.
Microfiber, by its very nature, is stain resistant. As a result,
stain products like Scotch Guard or other fabric protection
materials are usually unnecessary with this type of sofa. Some
furniture retail outlets offer protection plans that will help
with stain resistance, so if that is one of your big concerns,
contact your retailer to see if a protection plan is right for
you. For general cleaning, though, a drop or two of mild
detergent, like dish soap or laundry detergent, combined with a
bit of water should clean your microfiber sofa in no time. Odors
like urine can be easily eliminated by blotting the stain with
white vinegar and distilled water, applying baking soda, then
vacuuming. For the most part, cleaning will be an easy process
if it is true microfiber. Imposter materials, though, may be
more difficult to clean.
The majority of microfiber sofas use polyester as the base fabric because
it has the ability to absorb color better than other materials.
As a result of this chemical process, the color is forced to
stay in the fiber, and no other treatments will ever be
necessary. It may be necessary to occasionally have your
microfiber sofa steam cleaned. It is fairly safe, but a
professional cleaning service might not only do the best
cleaning job, but also do the best job of protecting your
microfiber sofa. Finally, to clean lint from your sofa, a simple
lint roller (the kind that is sticky) should be the best option.
Vacuuming might help in some cases as well.

I always like to hear about new ideas that really work well, are
easy to implement, and not expensive. Here’s one that is so
simple, you’ll wonder why more people don’t do it, that is
install a digital door lock on the doors in your house. Hey,
these work great on carswhy not houses?
A digital door lock is simply a fancy name for a pushbutton,
combination, or keyless entry lock. With a digital door, you
won’t have to risk your keys will be lost, stolen, or copied.
There is no AC wiring or batteries, so you won’t be locked out
during power failures. And you’ll never have to pay a locksmith
to change out your locksyou can do this yourself.
Digital door locks are available nowadays with a hacksaw-proof
deadbolts for standard doors, sliding doors, cabinets, even
outdoor gates & fences like around a pool or play area. You can
even get locks with a keypad on both sides or with a spring, so
door automatically locks each time the door is closed.
Most digital door locks have with easy-to-change codes and some
even come with a key override option so that a master key can be
used to open the lock as well as the combination.
Some models are big and clunky and look like they would do best
in an industrial setting like a data center or lab, but others
have really nice designs and finishes that go quite well in a
home setting.
What are the things to look out for when choosing a lock? Pretty
much what you would expect:
1. Make sure you get a high-quality lock with a good warranty,
at least 5 years, from a reputable dealer who also has a clear,
no-nonsense return policy.
2. Find a dealer that will sell you parts, just in case you need
them.
3. If you think you’ll be purchasing more than one, also ask
about volume discounts, even if you purchase them at different
times.
4. Look for a dealer that carries several models and finishes,
so you can get exactly what you want.
5. Check out the installation instructions. These days, any
homeowner equipped with a phillips head screw driver should
pretty much be able to install these locks themselves and change
the combination in just a matter of minutes.
6. Make sure you know up front what the tax, shipping and
handling costs are.
7. Finally, shop around. Use the Internet to find sites that
sell digital door locks. It’s fast, easy, and secure.

There has been significant interest in washing roofs lately, including a lot of questions about what products to use when washing roofs and how to remove those black streaks and stains (mold algae also known as ‘gloeocapsa magma’). Washing roofs to remove these stains will significantly affect the look of any home. In the past, the only way to get rid of them was to replace the roof. It has been estimated that as much as 50% of all roof replacements have been done because of the appearance of the roof stains and not actually because of its functionality.
These roofing stains are impossible to remove without the right roof cleaners. Caustics are inexpensive and very effective for killing mold. Bleach is used most often when washing roofs, but sometimes with disastrous results. GAF roofing says that the use of bleach when washing roofs immediately voids any warranty on an asphalt roof because it breaks down the composition of the shingle. We have heard of contractors resorting to 12% bleach concentrations, but many experts believe that this kind of roof washing can result in roof failure within a short time frame.
When we are power washing roofs for customers, we use the following method: First, using an X-Jet, we wet the roof slightly to cool it down. Second, we apply QwicClean’s Roof cleaner to the shingles, from the ground, using an X-Jet. We allow the roof cleaner to work for about 15 minutes before we begin power washing. (Note: Roof Brite costs as little as 70 cents per gallon, which is less expensive than bleach!)
Walking gently on the roof while washing, we clean the roof using very light pressure - about 300 PSI. We are very careful to avoid knocking off gravel from the surface of the shingles when washing roofs. When we meet up with a tough stain area, we use a very soft scrub brush with a 5′ handle and gently scrub this area. Finally, we rinse the roof surface well. Rinsing can be done from the ground using your X-Jet again.
Steep roof cleaning jobs require special gear to prevent falls. After all, a good roof cleaner can make any surface pretty slippery. A chicken ladder along with a roped harness is one way to make it safe to move around when cleaning roofs.
Be very fussy on the street side of the roof, homeowners are looking for “curb appeal”, so spend the most time where it counts the most.
Once the roof washing is done, there are two other services we can offer our customers. For an additional fee, we will treat their roof with Bio Barrier, a special formulation from QwicClean that prevents new algae spores from sticking to that clean roof. Instead, the spores move on to the neighbor’s roof where they grow, turn black, and create future roof cleaning jobs.
For another charge we will clean the gutters (inside and out). Being careful not to get any roof cleaners on the house paint (to avoid streaky clean spots) we scoop and rinse out the gutters and clean the outside surface with Gutter Zap. This can be done from the ground with an X-Jet or it can be done by wiping the gutter surface with a rag (and Gutter Zap).

As with the advancements in options of upright and canister vacuum cleaners, hand held vacuum cleaners are joining in and offering many styles, models and options to choose from. Some of the features you may be familiar with a hand held vacuum are light weight, corded or cordless and the ability to mount on the wall. Cordless performance depends a lot on the charge of the battery, for small light cleanups they will do well and they come in handy when there are no plug-ins near by. As the battery power drops so does the suction power, and if you didn’t finish the job you will have to wait while the battery recharges.
Two styles of hand vacuums include straight suction or suction with a power brush to agitate the carpet or upholstery for a deeper clean. Some hand held vacuums, corded with the power brush work very well on pet hair whether it’s on the couch on the stairs.
Some available attachments for the hand held vacuum include: a brush for upholstery, crevice tool, extension wand and a switch to lock the machine in the on position.
Consider where you will use the hand held vacuum and its primary purpose, will it be used regularly for cleaning up pet hair or do you just want something to clean out the ash tray once and awhile.

This last year has seen a large increase in the number of people having natural stone, marble, granite, limestone, sandstone or slate fitted into their homes either as work surfaces or as flooring. No man made product can rival the beauty of well presented natural stone with its myriad of colours and patterns which are unique to your individual stone.
With this increased interest in returning to natural stone products has come an avalanche of products to clean, shine and seal the stones. Importers, tile retailers, builders and chemical firms have all jumped on the band wagon and see big profits in natural stone. Unfortunately it would seem that very few of these companies have any understanding of the products they are selling or fitting or advising customers to purchase.
In the past most of our work was concerned with restoring old marble, granite or limestone but increasingly we are getting called out to deal with brand new tiles which have developed problems.
Some of these problems are;
Tiles being laid so that there is significant lippage between them
Grouting gaps being too large
Tiles smeared with grout after sealing
Incorrect sealant being used
Acrylic sealants being applied
Polish or wax being applied to the surface
Marble and limestone being used in kitchens
Slate being used in showers
Not sealing the stone
Applying a seal and then assuming that it is now protected from all possible sources of damage
Discolouring of the tiles because sealant is left on the surface
Use of acidic cleaners in the builders clean
Poor or non existent care and maintenance programmes provided to the client
How do you ensure you are not left with a big bill after the builders have moved out?
Buy your tiles from a supplier that provides good advice and has an installation service,
Research the topic prior to purchase so that you can ask pertinent questions. If you get suspect or glib answers walk away and shop elsewhere
Do not simply go for the cheapest, they may prove to more expensive in the long run
If possible retain some of the money until the job is completed to your satisfaction. That way if there is a problem you can insist on it being rectified.
Your biggest protection is to get acquainted with the properties of natural stone and its care and maintenance before setting out to purchase your preferred stone type. You can do this by carrying out the appropriate search on the Web.
David Andrew Smith is the owner of a cleaning services company which specialises in the care and maintenance of natural stone and operate throughout the UK
