Finding the leak and deciding to fix it is the hardest part of the repair job. The actual repair itself is easy:
• Take the scrubby and clean off the surface surrounding the crack, hole or cut in the surface. This will do two things. It will clean the surface and rough up the surface.
• Dust off the surface with a clean rag.
• Take the EternaBond tape from the Clam Shell unroll it and cut off a piece of the tape so that it’s length will more than cover the crack, hole or cut.
• Remove the release liner from the tape itself to expose the adhesive side of the tape and place the end of the tape down at one end of the crack, hole or cut.
• Lay the tape smoothly over the repair area completely removing the release liner from the tape as you lay it out over the surface. Firmly push the tape onto the surface you are repairing.
• Use a small metal or wooden roller to activate the adhesive properties of the tape by rolling it over the tape. This will ensure the tape adheres well to the surface.

I spent the better part of 17 years in and out of higher education. Eleven of those years were invested in taking classes and pursuing degrees. In the process of having to read a lot of books and articles that I didn’t really have time to read, I began asking myself, “Isn’t there a more effective way to do this?” Like many of you, I had a life outside of the academic world. I had a family, jobs, responsibilities, and the desire to enjoy some portion of each week. Reading was necessary, but it wasn’t something I always enjoyed.
One day as I was sitting at my cubicle in the library, I glanced over at the three stacks of books I had accumulated. These books represented the precedent literature I needed to review before writing my dissertation. As the days went by, the stacks of books grew–I was adding books faster than I could review them! I was frustrated and ready to just give up.
That’s when I began developing the basic concepts that have resulted in the quickREAD method. That method now can be obtained in the form of an e-Book from my web site http://www.thinkezine.com.
Here is what I discovered. Even if I poured through every book page by page, my retention level wasn’t that great. So, if I wasn’t going to process it all, wasn’t there a more effective way to do it?
By using the quickREAD method, not only do you process the content, but you end up with a one-page summary of the main points of the text. The process works for books, individual chapters, and articles.
Basically, the process involves five steps:
1. Define the content. You must know what the book, chapter, or article is all about.
2. Look forward. Review the introductory material determining the author’s map for the text.
3. Look back. Review the summary material and identify the key terms and concepts.
4. Take note. Scan the entire text locating and reading about the key terms and concepts.
5. Summarize. When you can put into your own words the main points of the text, you have a basic knowledge of the content.
Does this process work? I have had students tell me that this process is one of the best things they learned in their entire academic careers. Others have thanked me for the hundreds of hours they have saved. You can do it too… it’s easy… it’s fun… and it makes you a more efficient learner. Give it a try!

From the very beginning social world turns to boys and girls with different sides. Stereotypes existed in society have a great impact on the process of children’s socialization and define its direction. People always encourage or punish children for their streaks of character according to these stereotypes. Boys happen to be under great pressure of society in formation of proper male behavior. They usually suffer from too-narrow definition of masculinity.
Dan Kindlon and Michael Thompson in their book “Raising Cain: Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys” reveal all problems concerning boys’ emotional world. The authors suppose that differences between girls and boys are amplified by culture and traditions that hold boys to stereotypical ideals. There is no “emotional literacy” for boys in society, only for girls. This book presents a clear picture of boys from their early childhood through adolescence. It clearly shows us development changes and relationships as well as consequences of popular culture and painful incidents of cruelty. Kindlon and Thompson try to show us the necessity of emotional training of boys and ways of protecting their emotional life.
The first issue I was interested in and considered as valuable is the problem of “culture of cruelty”. It consists in full restriction of boys’ activity, energy at school, in spite of their being more active by nature than girls. Boys are disciplined more harshly than girls, they are not allowed to display sensitivity, their weak points, warmth, to build up sympathy, affection, understanding. They have no right to cry. Everyone expects them to be strong, protective, to act tough.
But at the same time just female features such as model behavior, assiduity, painstaking, attention towards others etc., are encouraged at school. Their activities are appraised by contribution to common results, by help to others and so on, sometimes boys even can be chastised for being insensitive and inattentive. As a result a big contradiction appears that can cause boys’ passiveness, giving up activities that are expected to be performed in female form. Boys start thinking that it is better to be a passive person than “not a man”.
Besides boys have no outlet for their emotions and feelings. That’s why their emotions can manifest themselves in different ways: aggressive behavior, problems in adulthood, smoking, substance abuse or fighting.
There are some resolutions of this problem. First of all, we should permit boys to have their internal life, give them approval for all human emotions, teach them to be open about feelings, to be free in expressing them. It is also very important to recognize and accept boys’ high activity level. We should provide them with safe environment for expressing themselves and encourage their activity rather than put to shame.
Another interesting issue to discuss is the necessity for boys to develop emotional vocabulary and literacy. Without them boys are not able to restrain such feelings by culture that expects them to be “manly”, they can not get through the pressures of society and can find themselves at risk for loneliness, drinking, drug abuse, violence. But emotional vocabulary and literacy give boys the capacity to read and understand their own emotions and feelings as well as others. Boys become emotionally aware, able to express their emotions openly, they are encouraged being emotional. Developing their emotional vocabulary boys can communicate more efficiently with others and understand them better. Boys become more cheerful, caring members of society.
There should be pointed out one of possible resolutions of this problem. For instance, it consists in distinguishing the notions of courage and absence of fear, empathy and feeling sorry for someone. We should teach boys that courage is just a resistance to fear, and empathy means understanding and accepting person’s feelings.
This insight really made me understand adolescent emotional behavior. I understood that boys are eager to express their emotions and feelings, they long to be open, to comprehend themselves and others, but the problem is that they don’t know how to do it, and they rather prefer to hide their feeling than to express them. I became aware that each boy craves people’s love and acceptance, but he has to conceal it because of stereotypes existed in society.
This insight will be really useful for me while my working with students at the secondary level. Because I already know that it’s very important to recognize boys’ feelings, to affirm their dreams. In order to bring up a person who will respect and understand people, who will be open to them, we should create a nurturing environment for expressing their emotions, we should speak to their soul and teach boys to be able to express the full range of human feelings. The main thing I understood is that working with male students, we must always just hear them, understand and respect, as when boys are respected and understood they become emotionally encouraged and more open to their parents, teachers, their peers.

Finding an internship position while a college student is a great way to gain experience in your chosen field, experience the workplace firsthand, learn industry “jargon,” and develop marketable skills. An internship can also lead to a position with the same company or a direct referral for another position. You can also use the experience and references to land your ideal job. How do you go about finding this type of internship?
Use Your School’s Resources
As a college student, take advantage of your school’s career services. Too many students do not take advantage of this opportunity. The career services personnel can help you identify and locate internship opportunities that might not otherwise know about.
Additionally, use the staff in your department, including professors and administrative staff. These people also may hear of internship opportunities that they can pass along to you. It’s also a good idea for students to stay in contact with these professionals because these relationships are the beginning of your networking contacts. Your instructors are great resources for jobs, references, and other opportunities.
Conduct Your Own Research
If there is a company that you would really like to do an internship with, conduct some research to find out if they have an internship program. If so, follow the necessary guidelines to apply, such as submitting a job application, resume, cover letter, or any other information required. Even if the company does not have a formal internship program, however, this does not mean that it’s not possible. If you can write a strong application letter and resume showing why you want to work with the company as an intern, you may have a chance.
Additionally, just as you will when conducting a job search, use all your existing networking resources in addition to those mentioned. Tell others that you are investigating internship opportunities and let them know what you’re looking for. Someone unexpected might know of the perfect opportunity for you.
Be Prepared
When looking for an intern position, you may be required to submit materials similar to those for a job. This means you should have a resume ready, as well as a cover letter, references, and be prepared to submit any additional information. Even though your resume may not be as complete as it will when you graduate, having a basic resume on which to build will be a useful tool as you continue your professional development.
Consider Smaller Companies
While many people would love to internship with a large company, this is not always possible, nor is it always as advantageous. In a smaller company, there may be more opportunities and less competition. For the college student, this may translate into a permanent position following an internship. It may also mean more learning opportunities within the internship, as positions in smaller companies may include a broader range of responsibilities. This doesn’t mean you should turn down an internship with a large corporation, but do consider the advantages of interning with a smaller business.

As a college professor, I have dealt with all sorts of students during my many years of teaching.
Among the various types of students, there are those who truly love he subject matter and hence are totally dedicated to it; those who feel they are entitled to pass the course and hence work the bare minimum, if at all, and expect to get a good grade; those who have difficulty and hence either seek help or ignore the course completely; meaning, they may get a C or fail the course entirely.
There are those who hate you as a teacher, no matter what you do. These are the less mature ones who cannot separate their dis-likeness of the subject matter from the person teaching it. There are those who simply dislike you, meaning, there is some sort of projection going on. The reverse is also true. There are those who, even having some from of disconnection with the instructor, still go around it and work on the course.
There are those who are not well and those who happen to be having a tragic semester (for example: getting sick, losing someone in the family, having a car accident, and so on, all within weeks of each tragedy). There are those who truly love you regardless of what you teach and have a lot of fun in your class. There are those who need more sleep and choose your class to catch up with it; those who think that because they are paying customers they don’t need to work; those who work full time and study full time; those who parent full time and study part time; young students, older students, full time students, and so on.
The list seems unlimited.
But now that you are to become one of them, let me give you three pieces of advice so you can enjoy all your classes and do well on them as well, regardless of your love of the subject matter or your instructor.
1. Soon after having your first classes, make a 20 min. appointment and go speak with your professors. All of them. The purpose of your visit should be to introduce yourself and get to know who is teaching you. Talk about your life, your family, your favorite things, your High School, and your expectations about the course. Ask them what they like, why they are teaching — trust me, money is not in their priorities — their expectations about you, their grading system, and so on.
2. Sit in front of the class and avoid wearing hats that cover your eyes. This is very important because situated in the front will tell your professor that you are interested, even though your grades may say otherwise. Also, look at them in the eyes as much as you can. You would be establishing rapport, which is absolutely necessary for a good relationship.
3. Participate in class. Ask questions; answer them. Forget what your peers think about you; do as much as possible anyway. Be prepared. Do your homework. Study for your exams. Nothing pleases anyone more than having a person who shows interest for what you do.
If you think you don’t need to please your professors, think again. In fact, you should strive to have good rapport with everyone you encounter.
Just doing these 3 things will put you in a category apart from your peers. Trust me. This is very beneficial for you. I will discuss more of it in another article.

In our modern world, we frequently compare and contrast several
things, facts, theories, events or personalities. We have been
comparing different economical, social and political systems for
ages. How we develop this process? How this technique is
achieved and perfected? It can be achieved by
comparison/contrast technique. One should show similarities in
comparing several things, and one should point out the
differences when contrasting. First step in the writing of
comparison/contrast essay is the choosing of particular topic.
However, do not try to choose incomparable things- the taste of
lemon and the color of the wall, or the toughness of the ball.
One should choose some events, figures and things that have many
similarities. Once, you have chosen the subject of comparison
you can start working on your compare
/contrast essay. Second, you should enlist all things that
you know about these subjects. After, you have completed this
process try to identify differences and similarities. Third try
to develop the main point of your argument. For example, if you
compare the cat with the dog, you should indicate differences
and similarities, by answering the following questions: What I
have learned about these animals? How does the cat differ from
the dog?Once you have answered these questions, you may develop
your argument. It may look like the following: Despite the fact
that the cat and the dog are husbandry animals, nevertheless
they have some similarities and some distinctions as well. Many
students do not understand why this type of an essay is so
frequently assigned to them. The answer lies in the fact that
your tutor would like to teach you to develop your analytical
and argumentative skills. That is why the compare/contrast essay
is one of the most popular essays assigned at the colleges and
universities. Compare and contrast essay is widely used in many
other types of writing assignments. For example, one can use it
in designing of the English
essay. This type of an essay is assigned to test your
abilities to express yourself in clear, lucid and coherent
language. Regardless of the topic of your essay, you should
demonstrate your reader your ability to write on familiar and
unfamiliar topics alike. Apart from this, you should clearly and
unequivocally express your point of view on the subject you
research as well as provide some proposals on the possibilities
to resolve some controversial issues of the subject. You might
also, answer such questions as advantages and disadvantages of
the situation you research as well as describe the problem you
research, why it is important to resolve it, and what effective
steps should be taken to eliminate it. You certainly, may use
some compare/contrast techniques in order to show differences
and similarities between some points of the events, things and
personalities you research.Remember, however, that it is vital
almost indispensable for this type of assignment to connect your
paragraphs with logical and convincing sentences; also do not
provide any facts unless they are backed up by some evidence.
And whatever topic you are assigned with, whatever subject
should be written do not forget to check out your essay on

Peoples lives are busier today then ever before. This can make going back to college to get a degree very difficult. Trying to balance work, school and family can be a real challenge. Many of us have to work full time and take care of children which often leaves little time to go back to college. Thus, an online degree for many of us is the only way to go back to college. Many of the top universities are realizing that the demands of personal life and professional life need to be balanced and in order to meet this need they have developed a wide array of online degree programs.
A great alternative for the busy working professional adult is an online degree from an accredited college. As long as the program is taken through a college with accreditation it will be recognized by all the other major universities and work places in the state. There is honestly no difference between earning a degree online or attending classes at the campus. For the employer these are virtually the same and the degree earned is the same not matter which route is taken.
The types of degrees and courses offered through online colleges vary greatly. It is therefore important for the perspective student to take the time to research the programs they are considering. Find out about the structure of their online program as well as the requirements for earning the degree. Most colleges make the research very easy and they are more then willing to send you free materials and even talk about their various programs over the phone or in person. So it honestly pays to do some research before starting any program. There is a vast array of possible degrees that can be earned online including an Associates Degree, Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree and even at some universities a Doctorate.
The advantages of getting a degree online are numerous. A few of the major benefiets are listed below.
Flexible Timing
That’s right with online courses there is a great deal of flexibility in the time of class. Most programs allow you to log in to the internet and complete your assignments any time of day. So you can easily get online and compelte the course work after kids go to bed or early in the morning on the weekend. You can find the schedule that best fits with your hectic lifestyle.
No Drive Time
One also saves a great deal of time by not commuting to the school. Often the drive time to and from school along with walking to class can eat up a great deal of time. However with an online program you can simply log in at home and get started working on the class within minutes. This is a huge time savings when you total up each minute saved over the period of an entire program.
Self Paced
Another great reason to try completing a degree this way is they are often self paced. There are of course some time limits to ensure that you do complete the class. For the most part however you can work at the pace you feel comfortable with.
Plus a lot of students find that by working online they can avoid the distractions in a typical classroom. For example you don’t have to listen to the annoying person in the front of class that stops the instructor every five minutes to ask a question. You also do not have to worry about the instructor getting to into his lecture and not giving you a break time or holding class past the time. Many students feel that this helps them focus their time and spend it more efficiently.
The only thing that one needs to be careful of when considering completing an online degree is to make sure the program is accredited by the state. This is as easy as asking the college! Programs that are not accredited are great for your own self improvement but they are not considered to be transferable or on the same par as an accredited program.

In today’s highly competitive college admissions process, families must never lose sight of the fact that nothing is more important to parent or child than the student’s acceptance to college. Your second priority is how to pay for it.
Planning for college can begin as early as birth, and for that matter, even before birth. Financial planning in the early years can make all the difference in the world when it comes time to have to cough up all that cash! The following are some of the best ways to save for college:
Custodial Accounts: With Uniform Gift or Uniform Transfer to Minors Act Accounts (UGMA or UTMA), parents, grandparents, etc. can each contribute up to $11,000 per student per year (2005). This money can be used for college or any other purpose. Although the money remains in the student’s name, the custodian, usually a parent, has absolute control over the account – i.e. stocks, bonds, mutual funds, savings, etc. UGMA accounts accept cash only. UTMA accounts accept cash and property.
The Downside: UGMA and UTMA accounts are irrevocable gifts that are considered student assets. Since students have no asset protection allowance, these assets are assessed at either 25% per year at schools that employ the institutional methodology, (Ivy League and high profile private colleges), or 35% per year at all the rest that employ the federal methodology! Therefore, this option must be used with extreme caution!
Education IRA’s a/k/a EIRA’s: Single parents with an adjusted gross income (AGI) of up to $110,000, and joint filers with AGI’s up to $190,000, can contribute up to $2,000 annually to an EIRA. Earnings accumulate tax-free and can be withdrawn tax-free without penalty to pay for a private elementary, secondary, or college education.
The Downside: With the current limit of $2,000 (2005), fees can eat up much of the gains in the early years when balances are small. Contributions to EIRA’s are not tax deductible and all colleges consider EIRA’s student assets and apply the 25% or 35% assessment when calculating financial aid. What’s even worse is what happens when distributions are made from these accounts. Financial aid is automatically reduced dollar for dollar, because in addition to being an asset, the funds have now become a resource! When these funds are legally repositioned outside of the financial aid formulas, then none of the money is assessed!
State Plans a/k/a 529 Plans: Anyone can open a 529 Plan in his or her own name and designate a student as the beneficiary. Up to $50,000 ($100,000 jointly) may be contributed over five years to a maximum of $246,000. Funds grow tax-free and withdrawals since 2002 have been tax-free as well.
Downside: Monies contributed are not tax deductible, and there is little or no control over how the funds are invested. Also, there is a 10% penalty for withdrawals not used for college, and 529 Plans can actually decrease chances for a large grant or scholarship – and that’s not all. When there are distributions from these accounts, financial aid is automatically reduced dollar for dollar! As with EIRA’s, having the funds legally repositioned elsewhere, will result in no assessment whatsoever!
Retirement Plans: An IRA, HR10 (Keogh), Pension, SEP, 401(k), 403(b), 457 or any other qualified retirement plan should also be considered when saving for college. Such plans are not regarded as assets and are outside of the financial aid formulas. While the account value is not considered an asset, the annual contribution made is added back to the AGI for an income assessment! The big print giveth, but the small print taketh away!
Non-Qualified Savings Plans: These are accounts strictly set up to provide funds to be used to pay for the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) or any unanticipated college costs. Families need to set up these accounts as early in the student’s life as possible, so there will be adequate money to pay such costs when the time comes.
Remember, by the time students enter high school, consideration should be given to reducing “high risk” investments. Never gamble with money that’s earmarked for education! And, never lose sight of the fact that all monies saved for college in the early years will not serve their purpose unless the student prepares for and successfully completes the admissions process.
