Movies in London

Universe Of Movies

We revel in the movies, so why not look at calling on this city and appreciate quite a few of the places in the film? This city motivated heaps of remarkably first rate films and for well over a century, has accepted principle movie professionals to engineer their motion pictures in. This city is classed as one of the best known & celebrated movie locations. There exist primary locations for movies based in the capital; certain of the most known of locales have been filmed time and again. A few of the world’s leading movie professionals, new & old, are from London. Marvellous pictures have been shot in London and also commonly get good reviews.

The metropolis is the 3 rd most bustling movie making centre globally. After the City of Angles & also New York, Westminster borough is thought to be the principle area with more than 2 thousand, 2 hundred days shot in ‘05. Accompanying the city’s films you also have the city’s festivals. Such festivals occur each year on approximately the a similar day. These festivals are extremely distinct, so that there’s a suitable festival to suit every one of us. There are more than 60 movie festivals simply in the city and such festivals represent most of the metropolis’s particular ethic diversities. Such film festivals spread from documentaries to conspiracy theories, crime thrillers to African and of course their inventory simply increases in size.

Up there with the top considerations about the city’s film culture, are the movie theatres themselves. Among the grotty pits there are awesome cinemas that can help you rejoice in the film. Our capital contains well over 500 movie theatres, that embrace everything from elite silver screens, for example the Odeon & Vue, that can present the most recent movies and of course hits, right over to the more modest film houses that feel snug & also also screen older and often arty flicks, perhaps movies that couldn’t be shown at the higher end cinemas.

There are also silver screens at present that can provide a more unusual adventure from the customary cinema. You relish in your film in the cosiness of a couch or maybe an arm chair; you’re also able to request your food from their waiters. There there are several of these establishments around. The Roxy Bar and Screen is an attractive cinema found near the terrific Borough Market. The enterprise is a union of independent cinema, a lovely bar area & an eatery. The famous Electric Cinema which is placed around the Notting Hill locale has been open for years and now, screens a merging of art films additional to the most popular movies of the mainstream. Amongst the cushy leather seating, their foot stools & the bar area at the back, you are going to relish in watching every film. The city’s Rex Cinema is found in the Soho district of this metropolis & is touted as one of the coolest places to check out. Considering its intimacy & their cocktails to die for, this claims to be an establishment you must scout out.

It’s invariably going to be hard, when deciding which movie to see at the cinema, but for all that, the ambiance of a delightful setting consistently enriches everybody’s indulgence.

A Christmas Story (DVD) Review

Universe Of Movies

Adapted from humorist Jean Shepherd’s hilarious memoir In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash, A Christmas Story has climbed the ranks of the annual holiday classic films list to claim its spot among the hallowed elite of the genre. If you’ve ever tried to lick a frozen telephone pole, or found yourself in a ridiculous bunny outfit on Christmas morning, then A Christmas Story is one comedy you won’t want to miss…

A Christmas Story focuses on one central character, fifth grader Ralphie (Peter Billingsley) and his all-encompassing quest to receive a Daisy Brand Red-Ryder BB rifle for Christmas, although I don’t think he realizes he could put an eye out with one of those things… Thwarting Ralphie at every turn are his mother (Melinda Dillon) and father (Darren McGavin) who seem absolutely oblivious to their young son’s dream.

Unable to come right out and say what he wants, Ralphie drops subtle hints around the house such as placing clipped-out magazine ads for the gun in his parents’ nightstand reading material. When prodded for his true Christmas wish, Ralphie blurts out that he wants a Daisy Brand Red-Ryder BB gun, but his mother’s only reply is, “You don’t want one of those. You’ll shoot your eye out!”

A Christmas Story is filled with memorable scenes and highlights that have helped built a cult following around the life of a young boy obsessed with Christmas who is surrounded by a varied cast eccentric friends and family members. When Ralphie’s father beams with pride at his ability to win a newspaper contest, his proudly displays his prize in the front window of the family home, a three-foot lamp with a woman’s long, stocking-covered leg as its base. Embarrassed, Ralphie’s mother “accidentally” breaks it, sparking a war of words with her husband. Meanwhile, Ralphie dreams of saving the whole family with his Red-Ryder BB gun, thus earning the family’s undying gratitude.

One of the best sequences in the film involves a family trip to the local department store, where Ralphie and his little brother Randy meet with the store Santa Clause near closing time. Following a long, extended wait to reach the front of the line to see Santa, Ralphie is so brimming with anticipation to tell Santa what he wants that he can’t speak. So, Santa convinces Ralphie that he wants a football. But before Santa’s helper can push Ralphie down the North Pole slide, Ralphie blurts out his true wish, only to hear Santa’s reply, “You’ll shoot your eye out with that, kid!”

One of the best Christmas comedies ever made, although few come close to National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story is a memorable holiday classic the entire family can enjoy. Much like It’s A Wonderful Life, the film has only grown in popularity in the years since its release. The timeless nature of its subject matter lends itself well to annual holiday viewing, and it remains one of a handful of “must see” films for the Christmas season…

Plunk Your Magic Twanger, Froggy

Universe Of Movies

There was a time when all television shows were in black and white and there were far fewer channels than we have nowadays; and back in the 1950’s there was a popular children’s variety show called Andy’s Gang. There may be a few of you out there you actually remember it. For the rest of you, perhaps I could take you on a trip back to a time and place where Froggy ruled supreme and Midnight the Cat would be content to play her violin along with squeaky the mouse.

This show was a real Saturday morning treat for most kids. I say most because
it wasn’t to everyone’s taste. You see Froggy the Gremlin, who was the most
popular character in the show, would love to wreck things. Usually a guest
speaker would be invited on to the show and Froggy would then go and ruin their
carefully prepared speech. With this seemingly evil intent and Froggy’s gravel
voice, a few children found him a bit scary and even gave some nightmares. My
theory is that the really nice kids - the ones who would never be naughty -
found Froggy a little upsetting, but the kids who could sometimes be naughty -
the vast majority - found his rejection of authority refreshing…and very
funny.

The show would kick off with a rendition of Buster Brown Shoes, the
sponsor’s song. This was followed by a mix of live stunts involving presenter
Andy Devine and the various puppet characters and filmed adventures of an Indian
boy called Rhama of the Jungle.

Andy’s Gang was actually quite bizarre and bemused kids and entertained them
in equal measure. There were often real live animals in the show, including
lions and monkeys that would be dressed up silly costumes. The real star of the
show, however, was Froggy the Gremlin. He was a true rebel. The show’s guests
would give a lecture to the studio audience (in fact there was usually no live
audience, just canned footage and sound) about an earnest subject such as how to
bake a cake or how to catch fish and froggy would constantly interrupt and put
words in the guest’s mouth.

For instance:

Guest: Once I have mixed the custard I….
Froggy: …put it on my head
Guest: …put it on my…

And, of course the guest takes up the suggestion before realising what she
has done. Froggy wins again!

Froggy the Gremlin’s rebellious streak was loved by most kids. Some have
suggested, presumably with tongue in cheek, that the generation of kids that
watched Froggy turned into the rebellious teenagers of the late 60’s and Froggy
was a subliminal influence on them. One day we might see a thesis with the
title “Froggy the Gremlin’s Influence on History”.

One of the many bizarre happenings in this show was the catchphrase Andy
Levine used when he wanted Froggy to appear: “Plunk your magic twanger,
Froggy!”. What the verb plunk and the noun twanger mean is not certain, but
the saying may have its roots in an earlier incarnation of Andy’s Gang called Buster Brown Gang,
presented Ed McConnell where Froggy once played a guitar.

If adults find today’s kids tv a little baffling, just think of what the
1950’s grown-ups thought of Andy’s Gang….nothing changes!

Client Eastwood – Mini Bio

Universe Of Movies

Go ahead, make his day!

The perpetually squinting marine-core-drill-sergeant-tough Eastwood has defined what it means to be a hard-hitting, merciless but ultimately fair and honest enforcer of “justice,” starting way back with his Italian Spaghetti-Western movies like For a Fist Full of Dollars (1964).

He was born in San Francisco, CA on May 31, 1930.

His other tough-guy classics include Hang’Em High (1968), Kelly’s Heroes (1970), Magnum Force (1973), Unforgiven (1992), In The Line of Fire (1993), Play Misty For Me (1971), Dirty Harry (1971), Absolute Power (1997), Blood Work (2002) and Million Dollar Baby (2004).

Nominated for 5 times, he won an Academy Award in 1993 for Unforgiven and TWO awards in 2005 – for Best Achievement in Directing for Million Dollar Baby (2004), and Best Motion Picture of the Year for Million Dollar Baby (2004) (shared with Albert S. Ruddy and Tom Rosenberg).

Incredibly, in the same year Eastwood was nominated for YET ANOTHER Oscar which he did not win – that of Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for Million Dollar Baby (2004).

Did you know these trivia facts about Eastwood?

1) His father was a steel worker.

2) He served for a term as the Mayor of Carmel, California.

3) He was a big baby at birth, weighing 11 lbs 6 oz.

4) Owns a members-only private golf club “Tehama” in Carmel Valley, California.

5) When he won the Best Director Oscar for Million Dollar Baby (2004), he became the oldest director to do so at age 74

Art Posters

Universe Of Movies

A work of art is a timeless treasure and an eternal source of joy. While the functional utility of posters has been exploited for ages, the aesthetic appeal of posters has elevated their status and transformed them into a unique form of art. Poster production is done by lithographic printing on paper, which is a relatively inexpensive form of printing. However, poster art has found its own class of collectors and admirers. Moulin Rouge made history when it sold for a record-breaking $200,000 at a fine art poster exhibition. After the success and popularity of the 1970s vintage poster market in France, posters have caught on among the masses across various countries.
A piece of poster art is not just a visual treat; it speaks out and conveys a message. An individual piece is conceived by an artist through the creative execution of his/her insight, but these are not necessarily decoded by another. The message varies depending on individual perception. Art posters are used as unique pieces of decor. They create a particular mood, define the ambience of the room and reflect the possessor’s personality. Apart from personal purchases, it can be purchased as a special gift item. Both the online and offline market provides numerous options to a lover of poster art.
Many poster exhibitions, auctions and museums showcase art posters. Collectors can get information from various collector’s magazines like Jon Warren’s price guide, Movie Poster Price Almanac, and many more. Online guides give a good idea about the pricing of various posters and collectibles, and how to get a good deal. The collectible value of a piece can be determined to some extent by some standard parameters, like the demand for the poster, its condition (weather damaged, stained or not), and what issue the poster is. However, the decision about the collectible value of an art poster is subjective.
Art posters can be of various kinds, like vintage original posters, specialty prints, fine art, movie or music posters, posters of nature, abstract posters and many more. Alice in Chains, Fallout Boy and Avenged Sevenfold are few of the rare music posters. Limited edition posters are also popular. The magical charm and ambience created by the classic movie posters of the golden era can hardly be resisted by any one. Art posters have a charm and loyal following of their own that is hard to resist.

Posters provides detailed information on Posters, Nature Posters, Movie Posters, Art Posters and more. Posters is affliated with Old Movie Posters.

How To Be The Model Movie Watcher

Universe Of Movies

We have all been there: the lights dim, the surround sound booms, and then, of course…the cell phone rings.

Movies are meant to be an escape, but it is often times difficult to slip into a different world when your movie-going neighbor has his or her ear attached to their phone the entire flick.

There, in essence is rule number one: turn off your cell phone. Unless you are a medical professional who might be called into emergency surgery, the phone call most likely can wait. And picking up your phone to tell the person on the other line that you, in fact, are in a movie is not good either.

Rule number two: If you anticipate needing to use the restroom excessively, sit on the aisles. Now, that is not always possible, but nothing (besides a cell phone call) is worse than seeing a large shadow of a head trying to make it’s way down the row on the screen, instead of your favorite leading lady.

Kids are great. Kids love movies. They, however, do not love all movies. Make sure your child is old enough to enjoy the movie, for their sake, and for everyone else.

So, next time you make your way to the movie theater, think of these simple ideas. If we take hold of them, all of our movie going nights will be stress free.

Alias (Season 3) DVD Review

Universe Of Movies

Premiering in September 2001, Alias has built a steady and loyal following among television viewers. The show combines the fast pace action sequences of 24 with the conspiracy theory backdrop of the X-Files. It also doesn’t hurt that the show centers itself around a character that’s a beautiful and mysterious woman. But the true strength of Alias, as with most successful TV shows, is its unique and creative writers who manage to always keep their audience on edge…

Jennifer Garner (star of 13 Going On Thirty) plays the role of Sydney Anne Bristow, a beautiful, intelligent American woman recruited to work for the government’s super secret SD-6 agency. However, problems arise when her fiancé is murdered by the agency she works for, and she ultimately discovers that SD-6 is not a legitimate government organization at all… In seek of revenge, Sydney contacts the CIA, and they deploy her as a double agent. Meanwhile, Sydney’s estranged father, Jack (Victor Garber), also works as a double agent, and their relationship blossoms as a result of their work. Together, they manage to eliminate SD-6, and now both work full-time for the CIA where they’re accompanied by fellow colleagues Marshall Flinkman (Kevin Weisman), Marcus Dixon (Carl Lumbly), and Michael Vaughn (Michael Vartan)…

“V For Vendetta” The Movie And These Days.

Universe Of Movies

I must confess that the day I watched the trailer of “V For Vendetta” at the movie theater I wasn’t any close to be willing to pay a ticket for watching that guy with a funny mask on his face. It seemed to me it would be one more of those simple movies extracted from a not very known “comic” (at least for me) that are appearing in theaters quite often these days. But now that I watched it, I think I was judging this movie wrong and not being totally fair with the writer and director.

It was quite surprising to follow the story and its continuous resemblance to what is happening today in a not too far away country and not too strange neighborhoods. In the movie is England that has been taken over by a group of fanatics that have concluded that their reason to live is power and the imposition of his world model and ideas over everyone and everywhere. There is a continuous war outside the borders and inside democracy is over; meanwhile fear is alive. People has lost the power of questioning reality and take conscience of the terrible consequences of living under such a decadent regime. It is a model based not in reason not in justice. Is the model “fascists” preach, where obedience and a “clock-like” functioning of the society in the interest of a few “chosen ones” is needed.

But suddenly there is a problem menacing the “status-quo”, they (without knowing) have created their own finisher. It is a figure that appears to us as a mix of revenge with a revolutionary mind, its name is “V”. Though the movie makes it closer to a simple vengeance thirst of this character, which is a bad point for the writer, but anyway; the film put us in front of tyranny being challenged by a single questioner, a single doubt of what has been happening to that society and his menace to multiply those doubts once the right time has come, this is…The 5th of November.

There is also the human side of “V”, he meets the girl in the movie thanks to his opportune showing while she is about to be raped by a group of secret agents of the “fascist” regime that have catch her walking at the wrong hours. You are not even the owner of your time as long as the preachers of “England Prevails” are in power. She escapes safe thanks to “V” but only to be initiated into the world of those who will change that world. She will be the guest and prisoner of “V” until she finally learns that there is nothing to fear but fear itself.

At the end there seems to be a split of the vengeance appetites of “V” and the revolutionary intentions that have been growing as the story develops. It becomes somewhat clear that everything coming from the old regime must die, including “V”, but he has left a final gift and maybe a lesson for those who want to learn it. Passions belong to individuals and can be very powerful forces; but revolutions can not be made by one or two individuals, revolutions are made by the conscience and willing of the people.
