The IF function in Microsoft Excel seems to really cause many people a lot of heartache and grief, but all in all it is actually really not that difficult of a tool to use. The essential role of the IF function is to test whether a condition is either True or False and if the condition is True it will return one value and if it is False it will return an alternate value.
Let us look at an example -
Let us say you have two values. In one cell you have a value of 65 and in the other cell you have a value of 23. What the IF function allows us to do is to do a test and lets say we want to see if the value of 65 is greater than 23. When the numbers are plugged into the If statement, the result will be that 65 is greater than 23 and it will return something from the True return area.
So how do we create an if statement…
The secret to the IF function is really in its syntax. The syntax for the IF function is as follows -
IF(Logical Test, True Result, False Result)
What we can do is to now create the example we did earlier so begin by simply opening a Microsoft Excel Work sheet. In cell address A1 enter the text IF Test Condition. In cell A2 enter the text - Numeric Value 1, in A3 enter the text - Numeric Value 2, and in cell A5 enter the text Which Value is Larger?
Now we need to put a few numbers to test into our Excel Spreadsheet, so in cell address B2 enter the value of 65 and in cell address B3 enter the value of 23. In cell B5 we need to create our formula. If we use the example above we want to find out if the value in B2 is greater than the value in B3. If the condition is true we want to return the text - Numeric Value 1 and if the condition is false we want to return the text - Numeric Value 2.
The structure of the IF Function to do the test will look like this -
= IF(B2>B3, “Numeric Value 1″,”Numeric Value 2″)
What you will notice in the function above is that the text values are encapsulated in double quotes. Whenever working with text in Formulas the text must always have double quotes around it. If you type in the formula above into cell address B5 you should see the resulting text - Numeric Value 1. If you change the value in B2 now to 12, the automatic result in B5 should be - Numeric Value 2.
The IF function is a really diverse tool and it allows you to test an unlimited number of conditions to get the required outcome, you can even nest IF functions within IF functions but the bottom line is this, for every IF function the syntax should always look the same as above.

HAS ANYONE PUNISHED YOU?
DOWN WITH SISYPHEAN TOIL!
Have All Programs In Your Start Menu Become Enormously Numerous?
You bought a computer and started turning it into a habitable thing by installing various useful programs for work and entertainment. But then you opened the Start menu one day and all of a sudden became confused: ‘Where’s the program I need in this huge list?’
Catalog - True Solution For Arranging Information
The first librarians have encountered the same problem: ‘How to put great amounts of all this information into order?’ Catalogs solved this problem. A catalog allows you to focus on a certain category instead of paying attention to all items. It is possible due to the catalog structure based on the fact that all items have been already sorted by categories. This method turned out to be so good that catalogs continue to serve as a source of trustworthy information even centuries later, in the age of search engines, both for people and for search engines.
The More, The Worse
One huge list makes you look through a lot of unneeded items when you are looking for something. The longer the list is, the more attention and time your search requires. You can observe this oppressive situation on most users’ computers, it is enough just to open the ‘All Programs’ item in the ‘Start’ menu. If it is not the case with you, it is just a matter of time.
What To Do?
So how can you solve the problem of your menu being overfilled with various programs? Restrict your needs? No need to do that! The program Start Menu Tuner will easily solve your problem. Use it to create program categories you need and sort your programs by them. You will do it easily and visually. You will spend minimum effort even if you are new to computers.
Result - Quick Access To Any Program
What will you get as a result? Now you will not fall into a stupor at a mere sight of a large choice when you open the menu. Your choice is easy and visual: you see a category, open it and look at a brief list of programs that does not require a bloodhound’s skills. You have made your everyday life yet more simple and comfortable. It means that the quality of your life has increased and I congratulate you on that!

You might think you don’t need a firewall because windows XP has one
built in,
but read on for a plain-english explanation why this isn’t enough.
Before broadband and cable connections were common most people didn’t need a
personal firewall because they weren’t connected to the Internet for extended
periods of time.
Every computer that connects to the internet has an IP address. This is like
a sort of phone number, and is issued either to an individual computer or to
a “gateway” that connects a private network to the ‘net.
Domestic dial-up internet connections normally use a system called Dynamic
IP Addressing where people are issued with a sort of “new identity” every
time they connect, so it’s difficult to find and attack an individual computer
- Dynamic IP addressing is a bit like having your phone number change every
time you use the phone, which makes it difficult for the bad guys to find you.
But the longer you keep a particular “phone number” the more chance
there is of someone finding you and that is why high-speed always-on connections
need handling with care.
In particular, with “always on” DSL and cable connections you are
connected for extended periods of time which give the attackers more chance
of finding you if you’ve got an unprotected connection.
In these days of identity theft and with more and more security holes being
uncovered in commercial software it is vital that you have a good firewall
if you use a high-speed connection.
You may already have a firewall, either in a device called a “Broadband
Router” which goes between your computer and the Internet or the very
basic firewall built in to Windows XP Service Pack 2 and you might think that’s
all you need.
But there’s another reason that you won’t have thought of.
Basic firewalls will tell you, and hopefully protect you if someone is trying
to get in…. but they won’t tell you if something is trying to get out!
That’s right! Certain spyware and viruses can gather your personal information
and send it out of your machine without you knowing.
A good firewall will spot these attempts to send stuff out and will warn you,
quite possibly before your Antivirus or Spyware application notices the problem.
Which gives you time to get the problem fixed.

Spyware is a danger on any computer with access to the Internet. Software to detect and remove spyware is readily available and should always be installed, along with anti-virus software, to protect the computer and the user.
Spyware, as it’s name suggests, spies on PC user habits. The mildest types are really little more than a nuisance, popping up advertising according to the type of websites visited. At its worst, spyware can damage system files and steal passwords or other personal information.
Tenebril SpyCatcher is a well recommended anti-spyware program. It’s attractive and easy to use interface disguises powerful and effective spyware elimination techniques, with features including:
• database regularly updated from research and user input
• blocking re-installation of spyware
• “Deep Defense” protection, embeds into the operating system
• advanced algorithms to prevent false positive identifications
• behavioral detection to catch mutating or new spyware
• compatibility with Windows 2000 or newer, Pentium 350MHz or faster, 64MB RAM and 16MB hard disk space
• download and CD options
SpyCatcher Express is the free version of the software, available to download from Tenebril’s website. The paid version, currently called SpyCatcher 2006 includes several additional features:
• automatic updates
• background scans
• submit reports for analysis
• anti-phishing protection
• Hosts File Analyzer
• AD (Active Directory) and workgroup compatibility
• option to buy multiple licenses
• one or two year subscription package
SpyCatcher’s methods may confuse some – it allows spyware to install but then quarantines it when it attempts to do anything, before removing it on the next removal scan. This is how the behavioral learning of the program works – reading spyware programs installed and analyzing them in order to detect any new installations that display characteristics of spyware.
Upon detecting a new item of spyware, licensed users may submit a report to Tenebril. This is then used alongside in-house research to ensure the database is always kept right up to date.
SpyCatcher has a suspicious file wizard, to help in the identification of spyware and to check against the Tenebril database. It also protects against phishing, or fake, websites by checking page definitions and URLs and warning if the page does not appear legitimate.
A great feature of SpyCatcher is the Deep Defense protection. Sometimes, spyware fixes itself into the operating system even though it has been detected by a removal program, ready to to jump back into action after a reboot. The Parachute feature protects the PC on startup. SpyCatcher loads ahead of the computers boot sequence, checking for spyware as it goes. If it detects anything, it will boot the PC in Safe Mode, delete the offending program, then reboot normally.
It’s likely that on revisiting a site, which gave away, its spyware on the last visit, the same infection will be picked up again. Not with SpyCatcher. It works to make sure that no spyware is allowed to come back into a system once it’s already been on that hard disk.
The National Cyber Security Alliance’s research suggests that 90 percent of PCs become prey to spyware. This is all the more a good reason to install a program like SpyCatcher.
Ben Sikes recommends reading the full product review of Tenebril SpyCatcher at Identity Theft Spy.

In working with providing computer programs that leverage the use of natural language as a means for program command control, one of the first responses some people have is, “You mean I have to type?” The aversion to typing out thoughts to accomplish tasks seems unreasonably daunting for some at first, but when the advantages of using simple concepts are made clear, the method presents many strengths not available in other forms of control.
Using natural language is first and foremost the simplest form of communication used by people to communicate with each other. We do it every day in composing emails, letters, memos, and notes to one another. Unlike the methods we most prevalently use to interact with software programs, using natural thought processes allows us to eliminate much of the symbolic recognition, translation, searching, memorization, and implementation steps needed to convert the human thought processes into mechanical functions. Here is a simple example to illustrate the point. Using current computing methods, suppose you have it in mind to write a letter. The thought impulse to create a letter is simple enough, so now you need to figure out how to get that done. Here are the steps:
1. You decide you want to write a letter.
2. You need to remember what the name of the program is on your computer that you use for writing letters.
3. In the easiest invocation, you search your computer desktop visually to locate the icon symbol that is associated with the software you use to write a letter.
4. When you locate the correct symbol, you double click on the icon to start the word processor program.
5. If you are using a template for your letter, you search for the proper template and click on the document you want to use as the starting point for your composition.
6. With the template now visible, you can begin typing the information you want.
Most people feel these six easy steps are efficient enough to be comfortable with using the computer. However, if you use natural language control concepts to perform the same function, it is possible to accomplish the same task by creating a simple command like “letter” or any variation on this concept command you wish. Once this natural control word is established, typing the word “letter” performs the first five steps in the above process automatically, leaving you with the remaining task of typing your desired text. Simply by thinking, “I want to write a letter,” then typing the word “letter” into an interface, the machine performs all the search, recognition, translation, and implementation steps that would otherwise be left up to you. When this convenience is magnified to work with other things you use your computer to perform, the result is significant improvement in efficiency and simplification of the interactive process.
Some software manufacturers have tried to provide the benefits of this type computer interaction using Voice Recognition (VR) technology. Unfortunately, the limitations associated with implementing, incrementing, and manipulating voice commands have proven to be widely unpopular for the most part. Using VR technology, the computer has problems recognizing user voice commands if the person has a cold or does not speak clearly. This results in the need to repeat some commands multiple times to get the desired results, or recalibrating the software. There are also extra vocal control actions needed when moving through text that make the system more difficult to use. A third difficulty with VR technology is the amount of storage space needed to maintain the vocabulary and information database that makes it work.
I have found that using a simple text entry system for natural language control is the best option presently available. To supplement the text entry function, I have also used an augmentation that allows me to point and click on my desired operation as an additional option for invoking the more sensible commands I create for myself. The degree of organization and more efficient operations achieved by using natural language commands have been measurably more productive than traditional means of computer interaction.

What’s the best route for your practice to take to meet and fulfill all the needs of your clients? How can you make sure that your practice stays up-to-date and on top of all the medical record procedures? Electronic medical record software can and will help your practice with the medical records your staff has to process. The best option is to determine which emr system suits your practice so that everything is able to run effectively and efficiently for your staff and clients.
EMR Software
EMR software provides a number of solutions to better patient care. As we all know, money is a huge concern for practices that are big and small. This software will help save time for your patients and staff and, most importantly, save money for your practice. With time saved on paper work, your staff will be able to pay more attention to your clients and their needs. It will simplify the lives of your staff as they learn to schedule, bill and do reports with this software. Not all emr systems are right for your practice. The type of software that you need depends on the size of your practice. Large clinics have different needs than those of smaller practices. For this reason, choosing the right emr functions is vital to the stability of your practice.
ASP Electronic Medical Record
For your office you need to find the emr solution that best fits your practice environment. Once selected, you can customize the software so you and your staff are on the same page. Customization will make it easier for you stuff to look up, locate, and retrieve client data. With broadband Internet connection, your practice will not have to worry about taking care and backing up the information. Servers, back-up, and IT problems are all taken care of by the IT professionals of the company’s software from who you purchase it. Your practice’s files are always secure and available to your staff for quick and easy processing. Switching computers is not a problem in case of a virus or crash. All information is securely stored and backed-up by the vendor. The best part about ASP electronic medical record is that it allows flexibility. It’s a monthly cost and not a huge startup fee for your practice. This gives you the time necessary to use it and see how much it can help your practice reach new levels of service and efficiency.
EMR Systems
Setting up the system and having it customized to your practice is the way it should be. Have you ever had someone teach you a certain way to do something and that turned out to be harder than if you were able to do it yourself? I have and that’s why customizing all the different functions to your office will make it an easier process for your staff, and they will be able to handle their duties to guarantee a smoother running practice. The less you have to worry about the duties of your staff will bring greater ease to your mind and you’ll know that the job is being done right and your patient needs are being fulfilled.
